So the specs say min 650 cold cranking amps battery.

Doesn't say anything about the alternator size

So what size battery and alt should I have to operate the winch without burning up anything.

Line Pull Line Speed Motor Current Pull by layer

2000 (910) 13.0 (3.9) 160 amps 2/8000 (3629) 4000 (1810) 9.6 (2.9) 247 amps 3/7280 (3302) 6000 (2720) 7.1 (2.1) 332 amps 4/6670 (3026) 8000 (3630) 5.0 (1.5) 417 amps 5/6230 (2826) 10000(4536) 2.3 (0.7) 502 amps

They give a battery size because most alternators cannot keep up with the 3-400+ amp pull of the winch. Hence why a healthy capacity battery is needed. To be honest unless you're doing repeated long winch pulls the stocker holds up just fine. If you're upgrading anyways look for a AGM battery that meets or exceeds the recommended CCA needs of the winch manufacture.

I installed a vr10000 in my 14 jkur with in a few months of buying it new. My stock battery crapped out in just under 2 years. I have done a fair amount of pulling but always with the jeep running. It works well not sure if pulling had anything to do with the early demise of the battery or just bad luck. I put in a 710/930 battery

The battery in my 2013 Rubicon also crapped out within 2 years of purchasing the Jeep. I believe that's by design, regardless of winch use.

I slipped the tab for the new battery to Jeep under the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty.

they denied my battery replacement claim because I was over 36,000 by a little. less than 2 years they should have stepped up but in the end I am glad I got a better battery.
