I have a 2015 Wrangler with about 13k miles on it. I brought it to the dealer for some other issues, and they discovered the starter is bad and needs to be replaced. They claim that because there is some mud on it, the warranty wont cover it.

The starter was fine before, I haven't had any issues with it and drove the Jeep a bit on road since the last time I hit the trails.

Can they deny the warranty claim just because there is mud on something? Has anyone successfully talked to FCA and gotten something like this resolved?

I call BS on that. You can't prevent road grime or mud from getting on the starter. Did you bury the thing up to the air filter? That might cause a red flag.

No, I did get into some mud a few weeks ago when I was off road, but I washed it off and have been driving it since then. Mud/water was never near the air filter.

PM sent, thank you so much for checking into this.
Nice, hope it has a good outcome and I would love to hear the final verdict.

I would start taking my business to another dealer.
Interestingly enough, I not only bought the Jeep, but had it towed to that same dealer who is about 80 miles away from me because they seemed much better and easier to deal with then the one local to me. Guess I will have to try out the nearby one next time I need anything.

Is this the same jeep that ingested water and is running rough, throwing codes?
If so I can see why they said it isn't included under warranty

Me too. I have a feeling this isn't going to end well. Ingested water throwing codes as well, at another time? I have feeling this is going to be a strikeout.

Yeah, I don't think you will have any luck with a warranty repair... especially after reading that whole other thread...

Well, it turns out that it wont matter after all. The insurance company decided to total the Jeep as there was water damage to the engine and water in the transmission.
