Hey Guys!

i live in Canada...got the jeep used...

its a 2007...i've got 49000km on it...

when you shift into second gear sometimes it feels like it doesn't want to go. It doesn't grind, but you can feel some resistance...

i was under the impression i still had power train warranty left...but...it looks like the power train was under the basic warranty which finished in the spring...is this right?

has anyone else experienced this?

I would call the dealer, not sure how things work in canada. That's roughly 30k miles... donw here its basic 3/36 coverage, and does or at least did transfer.

The Lifetime Powertrain is not transferable. The 3/36 is.

Get a warranty and worry about it later on, if you get my drift.....

i think it may just be a linkage issue...it doesn't grind at all...and its only going into 2nd from first that is a problem...downshifting doesn't do it at all...

with the lack of grinding...and it only happening a certain way, and only in that gear...i think its a linkage problem...

i know the basic warranty was transferable...i just wasn't aware that the powertrain was under the basic warranty...

i may look into gettin a year of warranty now...if i can

There is no linkage on these. The stick shift goes directly into the transmission. I have the same problem from 1st to 2nd. Never a grind, it just kind of misses sometimes and flops into neutral. Usually happens when the transmission is cold (below freezing here in Montreal these days). I shift harder into 2nd lately and it's been happening less. Should be an interesting winter:rolleyes:.

I had the same problem. Make sure you pull it all the way left when you pull it down into 2nd. Also, when I changed my fluid at 22k miles I used royal purple and it helped some. Not night and day, but an improvement.

The last few mornings the temp was below freezing when I got out of work, and I popped the transfer case into neutral and the trans into 1st to warm up the gear box quicker.

thanks guys for the help...

i have noticed that it is definately worse in the cold...

i also emailed Jeep...i have 5yr on the power train...can you say, sigh of relief!...we only have one vehicle, and this is it...so i'll get it through the holidays and take in afterwards...it hasn't had the tranny fluid changed yet...its only just past 50k...maybe that will help...but i'd rather be safe than sorry

There is no need to do that and it's not good to lug the engine. Just make that cold shift is slow and deliberate and make sure the clutch is fully depressed.

When you park it for the night leave it in reverse gear (which is perfectly fine to do) and see if that helps. It's been working for me lately for the same problem. The boots freeze and stiffen in the proper position allowing shifts into 2nd and 4th until things warm up. Let me know if it makes a difference would you?

It's pretty tough to get around the laws of physics.
