The damnedest thing happened today. I started the Jeep as usual, pushed in the clutch and started it, fired right up but kinda shuddered when it started for a second. Then when i drove off I heard a whining sound on and off for a very short distance and then it stopped. Could not reproduce it again. Hard to tell where the noise came from as it only lasted a few seconds but I think it was near the tranny. I can only think the throwout bearing hung up or is getting ready to give it up.

Yeah that could be too, I hope that's what it was, a lot easier to replace that than puling the trans. Hasn't done it since....

Well...found the noise, it came back this morning and stayed so I checked under the hood, found the idler pulley was the culprit, funny how the sound from inside the cab made it sound closer to the firewall...
