What Auto Tranny would you use in your Jeep

I have a manual in my 03 Rubi but looking to replace it with an Auto. There are mixed reviews throughout the site on all the auto's but would like to ask everyone their take on what they would do.

Since I don't trailer this, I want one that I can use as a DD and wheel.

Thanks for your input :wavey:

Whatever one is in my 02. I like it. Never had a problem "knock on wood"
97-02 used the 32RH with is practically bulletproof. For an 03 if you wanted a manufacturer correct tranny you would need the 42lre which was the 4spd used from 03-06. Im almost positive that both of these trannys are not interchangeable because I believe the 42lre is more electronically integrated into the computer then the 32rh is.
I like the auto 42rle in my 04 tj becuase when you put the pedal to the floor, it won't shift out of that gear until you let off a little of when your pushing 5k rpms. I have 31s with only 3.73 gears but when you hit anything over 3k rpms you can really feel the power!
none, rather have a manual in the jeep
That was a really really helpful statement...

I believe if you go 42rle you will have to replace the ecu.
x2 on the AW4, seems to be a really bullet proof trans since I put it in a few years ago (pushing 36's around) using it as a wheeling rig and a dd. Best part is, with 4.10's and 36's with the AW4, I'm at like 2100rpms doing like 65-70mph on the highway.
Yep, since you don't have to change the ECU like those of us with 42RLEs would to switch, AW4 would probably be my pick.
I'm an old XJ guy and have only been doing the TJ thing a few months so I don't know too much about TJ autos. However, the AW4 like the XJ has is a great tranny as long as you don't overheat it. If you swap in one of those be sure to install a good tranny cooler.
