Pulling apart the dash to add wiring for an amped sub and came across this. I have an aftermarket head unit (installed by PO) and curious if this is a vestige of the OEM stereo or is it something different?

Part number is BTHFCK3. (Yea, i know that looks funny)

Google tells me it is a “Bluetooth telematics control module”. Huh?

It’s the Uconnect module for the factory radio.

Kinda what I figured. Anyone know what happens if it is removed?

Provided you aren't using it nothing will happen. I removed mine when I changed to an aftermarket head unit. Just disconnect it and see what happens before you remove entirely.

Mine is disconnected. It’s the awful uconnect mess FCA put in it. I’ve got the alpine i207 system which is much better.

I’ve actually got a Sony XAV AX-200 head unit.

Just installed some Rockford Fosgate r-165s speakers in the knee panels and sound bar (along with dynamat and stuffing) and a Rockville SS8P 8” powered sub under the passenger seat.

For <$650 I have a system that totally meets my needs now. And I have all the wiring in place if I ever want to upgrade to something “serious”. Huge upgrade to the factory (non alpine) system, but it’s not gonna rattle windows or vibrate the side mirrors. :)
