I was thinking about my gas mileage, and I know I am a "real jeep owner" now, because I get around 16 to 18 mpg depending on my driving habits and all I can do is think of all the mods I want to do to my jeep that will lower that number.

I use my gas mileage average to determine how "healthy" my Jeep is. It does show up when it is getting time to change plugs and /or clean air filter. For me a drop of 10-15% is going to have me looking for issues.

I want to get the best mileage I can, but I don't expect to get better than 17-19 around town or ever over 24 on the highway. It's a Jeep I didn't buy it for the gas mileage.

I think mine is measured by yardage rather than mileage.
14 highway downhill with a tailwind is about max. City - around 10.5
Do I care? Not a bit! I'm having way too much fun to complain.

I routinely average 15-16 mpg around town. A little better on the highway....but I rarely take the highway. I prefer the slower more scenic country roads. I've owned 4wd trucks since the early 90's and none have done much better.

Our 2000 TJ Sport with a 4.0 and auto trans. is consistant at 16-17 during local driving. We've not taken it on a road trip.

Our 2010 Unlimited with the auto trans is consistantly 19-20 during local driving. Highway driving is very impressive. Earlier this month I drove it to work for four days in a row (150 mile round trip highway driving). I saw the mileage climb to a high of 23.3. That was at a max of 65 MPH with the cruise set.

Our first Wrangler was a used 97 Sport with a 4.0 and auto. trans. The previous owner had installed an aftermarket breather kit (something like a K&N) and, what our mechanic described as, a Borla header and complete stainless exhaust. We purchased it from a local Jeep dealership with 119K showing on the odometer. The mileage was the same as the 2000 listed above: 16-17. When we traded it for the 2010 it had 157K on it.

2000 TJ sport, 95k miles, fully stock, 4.0, automatic, 30x9.5 tires at 27 psi. "Split hardtop".

Just under 20 (like 19.94) mpg highway with the hardtop closed. About 16 around town, and a bit less on the highway with the front half of the top off.

14-16 mpg. It varies on how well I monitor my speed on the interstate. If I keep it consistently at 70 or below I'll average 16. I'm holding off on future mods because I know the added weight is only going to make it worse and my Jeep is my DD.

Depends who drives it, me or the wife. She drives like it's the Indy 500, city girl.
Me, I grew up on a farm, so I learned to stretch a dollar, and in this case fuel mileage.

And really it's a Jeep, if you want fuel economy go buy an electric ricer. LOL!

14-16 pretty much ALL city. I rarely hop on the highway and when I do it's such a short burst it doesn't change the mileage. Do I care? No way.

I have a 2011 JKU sport with 4.5 long arm lift, 35s, exshaust, intake, and E3 spark plugs. I was getting 17.5 doing 70 on the HWY coming home last night, in town around 14 -15 depending on driving. NO I don't care I love my jeep.

Average of 16-17 with my 06 rubi 6 speed...50-65 mph seems to be the sweet spot and if i keep it at those speeds 95% of the time i can get 18-18.5. All deppends on where im driving though as i drive to a lot of different locations for my job.

Do i care? Well luckly i get mileage reimbursement from my company so not one bit :D Even if i didnt though i wouldnt drive anything else. I could have bought a cheap 40 mpg commuter car and pocketed waaay more money from the mileage reimbursement than i do now (i go through about 600 a month in gas) but I wouldn't give up my jeep for the world. The enjoymemt of owning and driving my jeep every day is worth every damn penny!

By the way i used to own a 99 5 speed 2.5 4 banger as a poor college kid and drove it til i graduated. Got the same kinda mileage with that jeep and didnt care then either!

With my 2004 the 4.0L, 4.56s, 5 speed, 33x12.50x15 duratracs, and mostly town/rural road driving I'm getting 17mpg consistently and peaked at 19mpg once.

I care.

I'm calculating mileage with this tank, and so far estimating a shade over 20 mpg. I pulled 130 miles before the needle fell below 3/4-tank.

19 gal tank, so each 1/4 tank is 4.75 gal.

130/4.75 = 27mpg

I presume that figure is artificially high, because most fuel gauges tend to hang at the first & last 1/4, and move quicker around the middle. I can explain why, but you don't want to read it. At any rate, I'm driving normally, and not yet employing all my tricks. Most yes, but not all.

FWIW, Phoenix is pretty conducive to mileage mongers. It's flat and low elevation. The freeways are set up well. Most on ramps are downhill, exits are uphill. I work off-hours and avoid the rush, I time lights, and generally don't exceed 60mph.

I'd like to see 20mpg.

2005 with 2.4L, 6-speed, and 31s.

My last jeep was an 02 Apex with the inline 6... it was on 35's 6 1/2 in suspension lift and 2 inch body lift i was lucky to get about 200 miles per tank (15 gal)

My current TJ is a 2000 with the 4 sittin on 33's with a 3 inch body lift... I easily see 250-300 miles per tank and a tank lasts me about a week...
