When speeding up, I hear what sounds like something making contact with the fan. That, or a thin piece of tin rattling very quickly. What are some things to look for? Yes - I am a rookie, can you tell? I just purchased an '09 Wrangler X two door automatic. 88k on it. Motor is strong - just that annoying rattling sound that is pretty loud.

My 2010 just recently started doing the same thing. I've read its due to cracks in the welds in the exhaust or something along those lines.

Check exhaust heat shields
This is the first thing I would check. Check in the area of the trans. and over the muffler. The one at the rear is the most common problem. Usually the attachment points fail. If not, it's aluminum and you should be able to move it to where it doesn't touch. The edges are extremely sharp.
