I was taking my doors off for the 1st time today. I bought the Jeep used about 2 months ago.

Hard Wired into the door wiring harness is this device.

I’d have to undo the wiring or cut it to unhook the harness. I’m not going to do that without knowing what’s effected.

Any ideas?

Is it possible it’s a LoJack anti theft device? I didn’t get any information for that with the Jeep.

There’s a power wire going from the add in harness. I’ll try to trace they to see what it’s powering.

Doesn't matter. It's a gps tracker and if you didn't get any info with it (account... password... etc) then it's useless to you. Yank it out because who ever stuck it in there CAN still track it, and if it's wired into the door harness then the chances are they can trigger the unlock.

I worked at a dealership that used those.
They didn't put them on every used purchase but, if it was a risky loan for any reason a tracker was installed. It could not implement a shut down condition but it could trigger a no-start condition.

I assumed the buyer was notified and had to sign something about the device but, I never asked.
I know the dealership never got the device back they just ordered more when they got low. Cost of doing business.

Probably a lot of vehicles out there with such a device.

I paid cash so it wasn’t put on by the dealer for my sale.

It’s coming off this week. Really pissed me off because I wanted the doors off today.

It was almost 70 here and clear blue skies. Went down to Galveston and drove the Seawall and played around on East Beach. The wife loves go over any jumps or dunes she can without getting into trouble with the law.

Had to rewash it again today to get the saltwater off. We drive through all the shallow ponding we could.

A fun day!

BTW..... I need to build a door holder. I didn’t really have a place in the garage to safely store them. Another project for this week.

My dealer had one installed and wanted to sell me a service related to it. They pressed really hard on it, but I stood my ground and made them take it off.

Could be dealer, could be previous owners significant other... or could be previous owner. I've put tracking devices in my Jeep and S2000 shortly after buying them.

Based on the thread, my money is some earlier dealer in the vehicles history -- though I'd absolutely ask your dealer about it.

The actual brand LoJack's devices do not look like that.

The "this side down" label, and the status lights tells me it more of an anti theft device, than a simple covert tracking device.

Does anything happen if you simply rotate it (enough play in the wires)? At least if it results in disabling your Jeep, it would happen while at home.

Maybe the previous owner put it on to reunite with the Jeep at a later time and relieve the new owner of it?
Never know...
