I have a new set of 17” methods. My guy been trying to balance them for a month. 6oz bags all the way up to 10oz no dice. Finally he put 20oz of wheel wights on the drivers side just to balance it. Three rows! See pic. He says he’s gonna try and contact his seller to see about getting another wheel or set. He says they are not true so they are not perfectly round. Is this common? I am on 35 inch tires. I trust my mechanic and am pretty sure he is doing what he had to in order to get them to finally balance. I feel bad having to take it back but I kind of feel like for the cost they should be perfect no? Anyway rides great now at least.

Find out if its the rim or tire. Spin up the rim only on the balancer and see how it is.

Send them back if they are new, not acceptable in any way...

What kind/brand of tires, how many miles on them? I would take the one with the most weight on it and find a shop that road force balances. If your tires are newer I would begin a dialogue with method. If they are older or an off brand have your friend mount a different brand 35 and see what happens.

They were spun by my mechanic. He bought them from his seller. He says when spinning them he saw they were not true.

Brand new tires. Got tires rims same time. Mechanic says it’s the rims. Thanks will have a conversation with my mechanic to see what his seller is saying. I don’t think the wheel should require that much weights on it.

for clarification the rims sans tires are that out of balance? If the rims are not true and/or out of round return them..

also i know Toyo says that it can take up to 1% weight to balance the tire/rim combo so if you have a 100lb total weight it can take up to 1lb of weight.

I just went through the same thing. Road force balancing and they had to spin the rim 3 times to get it to even try to balance. This is a tire/rim combo that has been balanced atleast 4 times. Level 8 rim with 35" KO2 took about the same amount of weight for a combo that comes on at

Did they have to use weights VS bags? He had to use all those dang weights on mine and did tell me the wheels are not true. I’m not sure if that means off a little or what. But to me that much weights on my wheel looks shitty. I don’t think it’s normal.

I don't know what bags are. This was at Discount Tire, they never mentioned anything about them.

Assuming he is referring to the glass beads you can dump in your tires to self balance while driving.

This is why when I went with big tires on my gmc I kept my stock rims, I just ordered steel wheels for the jeep for the 31's I always have issues with aluminum rims even expensive ones.
