Hey all! Looking for your opinions...
Have a '15 JKUS and currently running 285/70/17 ProComp AT's on AEV Salta rims. No lift but have the Teraflex spring leveling kit. Stock 3.73 gears. I've had the ProComps on now for about 55k and they have worn really well, but I've noticed a decrease in wet weather traction.

Looking to go to a 255/80/17 for more of a "pizza cutter" look and am looking at the following:
Falken WildPeak A/T3W
Toyo Open Country ATII
Cooper ST Maxx
Nitto Ridge Grappler

Of those listed, which would you recommend for best wet weather traction? I'm in Houston so it is HOT and we get torrential pop-up showers that just seem to bring all the oils to the surface of the road. Also, expect very little hard-core off road since this is my daily driver; occasional dirt but nothing that just about any AT should be able to easily handle.

FWIW, my local discount tire said they would recommend the Nitto as they seem to have the best formulation to resist hardening in the Houston heat...

Your recommendations?

I had the Toyo's in a 35" on a lifted F150. I felt like they were a bit slippery in wet weather, seemed to fish tail a bit around corners. They seemed to chirp a lot driving on curvy mountain roads (dry conditions). I didn't have them on a Jeep though. They did seem to last a long time and wore evenly.

Not on your list, but I've read that the Goodyear Duratrac handle well in wet weather.

I had the 35" Cooper STT Pro on my Jeep. They're a MT, but wore and handled very well. I would buy Cooper tires again.

Many like the Nitto's too. Though they tend to be expensive.

i have run 3 of the 4 choices (different sizes) I currently run the Falkens in 255/80-17 and would vote for those. I also run 315/70-17 ST maxxs on AEV saltas and they are great as well. I have had several Toyo AT2 in all different sizes and liked them too lol.

Most haven’t used multiple or all the tires you mentioned on their Jeeps thus difficult for many of us to compare in a fare way

I have the ridge grapplers on my JKU, been very impressed, not just on wet and dry roads, but also snow/ice performance.

From what I've read/researched from various members' reviews (from when I was looking for tires) I think the Falkens will be your best bet for wet traction. Followed by the ST Maxx.

I also have the Falkens in 255/80. I've only had them for about 1000 miles but they do seem very grippy and ride very smoothly and quietly.

If you are interested in the ST Maxx, check out the Mastercraft Courser CXT. It's also made by Cooper and is basically a less expensive ST Maxx.

I too would lean towards the Falken's. They are also a snowflake rated tire which makes them the best choice for any inclement weather of the tires you listed.

Thanks for the input all! I realize that very few (if any) will have real-world experience with ALL the tires on my short list... Was more looking for individual input on whether you liked a particular one in wet weather... Seems the Falken gets the nod so far.

One other choice that I didn't list is the Continental TerrainContact A/T... Not available in a 255/80 but is available in my current size of 285/70. According to TireRack it was one of the best AT's tested on wet track, but haven't really dug into it much further than that.
Had also considered the Duratrac as it always seems to be a perennial favorite... But again, was planning on going a bit skinnier.

Some reviews and such that I saw on Youtube and whatnot were not very fond of the TerrainContact. I'd say go with any of the others you listed for overall more capability/versatility. But then again I'm just spouting things I've read and heard in MY research, so you do you. I think you'll love the Falkens though...:)

Without pointing at a specific brand, generally have better traction with more siping and drain channels.

I also have Falken Wildpeak AT3 tires. at least i feel better with them as opposed to the goodyear MT tires that i had on the Jeep. with the AT3s being wide, you will still hydroplane easier compared to a skinny tire.

I did not know that. Damn. If that is the case, then me switching from BFG KO2s to Falken Wildpeak AT3 won't change a thing.

It will still help because the tread pattern is much better for wet traction. However, I chose E rated AT3W's in 235-80-17 and they are slightly narrower than the stock MT's and 1/4" less diameter.

Not on your list, but my KO2s have been excellent.

I run 275-70-18 on my F350 and havent had any issues, including driving through 6 inches of wet snow.

I agree I have had KO2 in 34x10.5-17 which is actually the same as the Falkens in 255/80-17 and very similar tires other than the Falkens are about 1/2 the price.
