Hello Everyone,

I am doing some research for my first jeep! Yes! I really want to change out the stock tires Goodyear 255/55 R 17 - on the 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport S to the same size BFGoodrich Ko2 here https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=All-Terrain+T/A+KO2&partnum=575SR7KO2&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Jeep&autoYear=2016&autoModel=Wrangler Unlimited&autoModClar=Sport S

My question's are:

Do I need to order the reinforced swing gate option since this ko2 tire weighs 10 lb more than the stock? My calculation is that the Ko2 tire weighs - 46lbs plus the stock rim weighs 25lbs (if im wrong let me know) making the total 71lb. I think I read somewhere that the stock tire carrier can support up to 85lbs for this model year. Is this right and will that be OK?

Also, will there be any problem swapping out for the ko2 in terms of rubbing or anything?

Any insight is appreciated! Thanks!

My advice is to order the tailgate reinforcement anyway because:

1) you may want to go to a bigger tire later
2) the factory installs the Teriflex hinge which is a quality product
3) you can mount a high lift jack and gas can to the Teriflex hinge

I have been running a 94 lb. 35" spare on stock carrier for over a year with out issue. Just extended the bumpstops to minimize vibration.
