Hey everyone,

I'm 16, and my brother is going off to college soon so I was going to save up and get him a winch for a going away present, he drives a JK, and I know this is wrong forum but I don't want him to see it.

My problem is I have a low income job, and can't afford a really expensive one, but I don't want to get him a really crappy one. Someone want to tell me where I can meet in the middle? And what weight winch I should get for a 2 door jk? He's not a serious off roader, but if he gets stuck id like him to trust this winch. Thanks

for a 2dr 9000 is fine, you can check out the other models, too.

IIRC the rule of thumb is get a winch that has a pull rating 1.5-2x's the weight of the vehicle it's being put on, and the 2dr jk weighs between 3800 and 4800 depending on how loaded it is.

X2 on the engo. Lots of good things said about them here on the forum. I wish I could say I was always as good a brother as you seem to be. Also, check out the vendors on here as one is usually running a special on engo winches.

I don't know what your price range is, but the VR-8000 is a great "budget" winch. I run one with the synthetic line (makes it more expensive), but for $479, I personally don't think it can be beat. The engo can be had for a little less, and when I was winch shopping, I seriously considered it. In the end, I went with the trusted name brand mainly because I didn't want to skimp on something I never planned on replacing.

If you can swing it, look into the Warn VR-8000. If your brother wants to upgrade to synthetic line down the road, he can do so himself.
