You can get synthetic strong enough to rip your truck in half. 3/8's can run up to 17k or so which should be more than adequate (note that not all synthetic brand's are equal). Both steel and synthetic have their good and bad points. Short article on comparing them in Dec 2012 issue of FourWheeler. It is tough to keep the sand/grit out of the synthetic. I ended up using 50' of sleeving (hydraulic hose cover) with my 8274 line on the 3B.Next would be: Wire Rope or Synthetic? I don't think synthetic goes to 12,000lbs.. If it does, would it bind up on the spool when under force?
