Now before everyone flames me on this I do understand that Jeeps are not the most arrowdynamic vehicles out there. Basically driving a box on wheels (with stilts). This is my first Jeep that I have owned and have only had it for about 4 months now.

This morning on my way to work it was a bit windy out and I had this gust that almost blew me completely into the another lane. What concerns me is the fact that wind on icy road and then trying to correct the steering seems like a bad combination in these vehicles.

With our vehicles lifted and shorty bumpers, pretty much the wind being able to get in the front underneath and sides between the wheel and fender can for the most part have it's way with our vehicles.

My question is, how does everyone handle this? Other than staying in the slow lane and driving cautiously.

that is exactly how i handle it. when it's rainy, or icy(which now won't happen since i'm in AZ) or just general bad driving conditions, i slow way down and just hang out in the right lane. i had my jeep spin out on the highway about a month after i bought it. rain and the highway still scare me.

Just drive carefully and don't try do over do it. It's windy as hell here in West Texas and several times I've felt like my Jeep was about to blow over on its side. I just take it easy and enjoy the ride.

Umm, ok you got me there! No need to mention the other forum

There are some quirks that I am still getting used to. That being said, I'm still glad I got it! I wouldn't trade it for anything (other than maybe a newer Jeep)! I'm just waiting for the snow to fall!

Speaking of snow, you will get a real eye opener with how slippery the jeep can be. Like everyone said keep it slow and dont let 4wd make you think the jeeps invincible. If you get bigger tires it makes it worse (contrary to common belief "O it looks like your ready for the snow") Im still a kid who likes to mess around now and then, but snow scares me unless im enjoyin it off road.

On more than one occasion I've slid off the road because of ice and snow. Chilli gives good advice.

I guess carrying a little extra weight (like sand bags or kitty litter) to give it a lil more weight in the hindparts might help for snow,ice or wintery conditions???

Sometimes cracking both windows so the wind can blow through
the Jeep might help,I use to have to do that with my Bronco II, when crossing the Delaware bridge.

Yea i hear you with the window deal! i thought it was just me, but yea i guess it does help haha. I thew 4 sandbags in the rear last year i dont know if it helped much, but its good for a lil more peace of mind. Also ABS is junk wit bigger tires in fact im goin post about how bad it is on lifteds

I never really thought about this but i don't think I have ABS, and if I do it doesn't work. As for the window thing, it's kinda hard with zipper windows.

just my .02 before the jeep i had a mazda 3 fun good little car(for what it was) and that thing would blow all over the place in the winter time. i had to be pulled out multiple times last winter. i just hope the jeep wont cause me to have deja vu. atleast this time i will have 4wd

I look at the Jeep's tendancy to be blown around part of the uniqueness of it being a Jeep. This is my fifth Jeep and it still catches me off guard once in awhile, especially after I have been in a dump truck all day where you don't feel any wind. Ahh, the joys of a Jeep.

Come out and vist me...I'll show you some wind. 20 - 30 mph winds are the norm in West Texas. If you're lucky the dust will blow too. Then you'll get a good sandblasting to go along with it.

The day I moved to Midland we had a massive dust storm. The forst thing I thought was "What the hell did I get myself into". But, you kinda get used to it.

Also, it makes vacations even more special. ANY PLACE you go is more beautifull than this!

Same here in eastern Iowa. The steady winds aren't so bad, it's the gusts that get to you.

About the ABS thing, bleh. I drive like a granny and I've squealed twice with wet roads and nasty, nasty people who don't like to yeld on one lane bridges...

About the wind thing. Just got the first bunch of bad winds since I got the tent. Really caught me off guard and nearly sent me into a field, and I'm not looking forward to wetness and wind. Ah well...I still love the thing.
