I am a brand new jeep owner. Just got a 2017 Sahara Unlimited 4 Dr today! It's a hard top. I love it except one thing...it makes a wind sound from about 35 mph and up. The sound comes from the windshield just in front of steering wheel as far as I can tell. It sounds like a leaf or something is stuck in the fog vents from outside but I can't find anything in there. It's not the generalized wind noise you would hear, just this focal spot, but it is so loud. Any ideas from faithful jeep owners? Thanks so much!

Has the windshield been replaced? Jeep windshields are prone to wind noise if they are not installed properly. You might try putting tape around the windshield covering the gap between the glass and frame. If the noise goes away, then have the windshield removed and reinstalled.

If you bought it from a dealer, see if they replaced the windshield as part of their presales reconditioning. If so, demand that they have the windshield removed and reinstalled.

:welcome: to the Forum..:wavey:

Congrats on your Wrangler purchase!

Your windshield may have to be re-installed. Per Safelite glass company, they are rather difficult to seal properly. It may also be a door seal causing it.

Does it leak water in when it rains...

Welcome to the forum. Maybe get some of that generic round weather strip and tuck it in the seam to find the leak.

Also make sure that the freedom tops are seated correctly. Unscrew the retainer at the back, undo the latches, and lift the front of the panel so that the tabs fit into the rubber seal. That might help.

I'd say windshield has been replaced. Especially if the noise is a whistling type of noise. I had my windshield replaced by safelite and it started whistling at 35 and up. They came back out the next week and re-seated it. Maybe you can get more info from the PO? If it is the windshield and it was safelite, you probably will get it fixed for free. Just a thought.

Another thought is that you can go to safelite regardless, and their windshield guy will go for a ride with you and identify the sound.

Thanks

I purchased the vehicle in another state and had it shipped to me (I wanted a purple one!) I don't know if they replaced the windshield or not, but will try the tape/seal thing and see if that fixes it and if not will go have the windshield checked by a local Jeep dealer. It does not leak, I checked with a hose and then it rained! Other than that, I absolutely love it!!!

Try adjusting the hinges on the fold-down windshield. My local dealer tried every which way to fix wind noise on my JL. They finally were able to fix the problem by adjusting the hinges. I’m now one very happy camper.

I understand why that would be concerning, dr.cutnsew. If you end up going into the dealer to get this officially inspected, let us know. Our team is available via direct message and would be happy to get you an additional layer of assistance.

Hey good advice for JL’s, JK’s do not fold down nearly as easy, so its is not relevant to a JK.

Thank you. I need to contact them for an appointment. I do not live near the dealership where I bought the jeep but it is still under warranty. How do I contact you?

If you click on our name to the far left, the drop down menu should give you an option to send us a private message. You can also call us at 1-877-426-5337 if that's easier.

If you're talking about a noise like a playing card in the spokes of a bike, my bet is a leaf or stick deeper in the system --rubbing against the blower's squirrel-cage fan. I've also heard that noise on a vehicle where the filter gasket material partly failed and got sucked in there, but it's basically the same problem. Unfortunately I'm too new to Jeeps to have any clue about how to actually get to the fan.
