Ever heard of problems with soft upper windows or hoods in high winds? I drove about 150 miles the other day - mostly on the shoulder because of the way my hood and windows were flapping! If I tried to drive any where near the speed limit when a truck would go by the other way my hood would come up a couple of inches....just wondering...maybe I need to get new latches...

150.. yeah.. in a hurry? :) i'm just teasing u but so far i've gone 90ish (on a safe track that is;)) in my hard top and never had a problem with my hood. Anyhow just in case you do choose to replace the hood latches i would get metal ones and dump the plastics.

Quadratec has those kinds of toys.

My hood flaps too. Freaks me out every time. It's just air getting under the hood and causing the rubber holders on the sides to flex. This is completely normal and usually happens when a big gust goes by. As for the windows, can't help you there. I have full doors. Although, sometimes I think the back windows are going to blow out.

I would replace the hood latches. I've been in wind that was blowing me out of my lane before, but never had my hood move. The windows on the other hand will make a lot of noise and flex in and out, but that is pretty normal with a soft top and half doors.

Your hood should not move, if it does there is something wrong and it should be fixed asap.

Your hood lifts a couple inches?
I just checked Amy's TJ and it'll flex about a 1/4 inch lifting with all my strength, My YJ doesn't even move that much and I'm a big boy. We get pretty good wind storms here and I've never noticed either one moving in the wind.

Yeah i am pretty sure that your hood is not supposed to move no matter how hard the wind. My hood doesn't move at all and if yours does I think i would be trying to figure something out.

Oh p.s. Triple A I think he meant 150 miles not MPH!! You couldn't pay me enough money to ride in a wrangler going 150!!;) ;)

My YJ doesn't do that and I have a fiberglass hood. Must be a TJ thing that I don't understand. I bet it could be those funny latches though. I have heard that they weren't quite as durable as the old school latches.

My hood doesn't move at all on my '02 TJ. I still have the stock plastic latches on it. I have to unhook them for it to move.

my TJ hood moves a little in strong winds, maybe 1/4-1/2 in, the rubber holders probably just wear out after time...

Its all plastic thats why :( BTW how do you unhook the old school latches?

I'm guessing you gotta push the hood down and unhook it?

The hook is spring loaded, it pulls up and off.

Yeah, my 01 does the same thing, especially if I've got a strong headwind. The rubber stretches and I've seen it come up around a half inch or so. I like those locking latches though and think I'll give 'em a shot

my TJ comes up about 1 1/2 in the wind. check the rubber on the fender where the hood touches it. chances are their wore down so the hood sits closer to the fenders thus making the rubber latches too long. I think I'm going to get some stick on rubber pads like for the bottom of furniture and stick them to the bottom of the inside lip of the hood, above the rubber stops on the fender.

I've driven up to 65-70 mph and I haven't seen my hood
much less budge...alot of whistling from the wind+hardtop.

ive seen my hood move around, problem was in my aftermarket latches, they looked good...however, after watching my hood bounce up and down during a 4 hour drive to camp, the rubber straps began to slice! i ultimately removed them and put the oe latches back on, no more problems

does any 1 actually sell latches that dont use the rubber piece to connect 2 parts of the latches together? Can those rubbers be replaced by metal links and a bit extra umph to close them? :)
