When I was getting my '14's last windshield replaced at Safe-lite about 18 months ago, I overheard a customer that had comprehensive insurance, be quoted $1500 for his MBZ windshield. After he left, I asked the clerk "why so much" for that guys windshield. I was told that it was because of the Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Avoidance systems on his car. After the windshield was replaced, those systems had to be "RE-CALIBRATED" and his insurance would not pay for that re-calibration. That was very interesting but not a big deal at that point.

Now, I am learning that Wranglers are coming with those new 'Bells and Whistles' in them. I watched a video the day before yesterday on how well they work. My question is:
Has anyone with these Bells and Whistles had to have their windshield replaced yet and do those systems need re-calibrating afterwards? How much does that cost and can your insurance be made to pay for that re-cal. or is it out of pocket???? I would hate to think that Safe-lite ripped that poor guy with the Benz off for $1500. I have zero deductible on my policy's because of how many Wrangler windshields I am going to replace in the next 30 years. Are Insurance companies not paying for required re-calc on systems they are giving us discounts for having in the first place? An inquiring mind wants to know.

Not sure but that sounds suspicious to me.....a lot of adaptive cruise control have sensors in the grill and my Garmin GPS has lane sensing that doesn't need calibration 馃檮馃檮馃檮馃檮

I'm not sure if Mercedes uses those, but the advanced safety group does include a sensor box behind the rearview mirror.

This is the video I watched that reminded me of how much it cost for the windshield replacement on that guys MBZ.



Only time will tell. I know wranglers get windshields a lot more often than other vehicles do.

Good news for ya, I just found out on another forum that the adaptive cruise control sensor is attached to the frame and not to the windshield. Someone posted a "what the heck is this plastic thing for?" and it turned out to be a cover you're supposed to put on the sensor if you fold the windshield down lol.



In that case, I don't think it will be as big a deal.

I am not believing what I just read. It sounds as though SOMEONE at FCA has a brain!!?? But I doubt it. That makes perfect sense to me. What is the crap behind the rear view mirror on the windshield in the video then???

Please, whoever is the first to deal with this POSSIBLE PROBLEM, let us all know. I know it won't be long before someone with ACC/FCW on their newer JL's will be needing a windshield replaced.

That is the sensor box, but it's mounted to the frame of the Jeep, not the windshield. If you fold down the windshield the sensor stays on the frame of the jeep. So there's a plastic cover that comes with it to keep dirt off it when you're driving with the windshield dhttps://imgur.com/Gx1BieLown.

Word! I'm thinking about trading in my 2015, but I can't make up my mind what exactly I want!
* The 2019MY production is almost complete, and from what I gather it's already spinning down so certain options are no longer available.

* The 2020MY includes a PHEV (hybrid) that I'm interested in

* At the same time, 2019MY might be the last chance to get a plain 3.6L V6. The 2020MY apparently comes with BSG - similar to how the 2.0T is currently setup with a battery to provide a little torque assist. Knowing Chrysler, it might be better to go with the simpler more reliable drivetrain.

* Also, colors, and stuff like that.

* Plus, I could theoretically expand my budget to get a rubicon with those lovely looking steel bumpers.



If I went with a 2019, I would either want a MOAB or a Rubicon, so I could have steel bumpers, leather seats, etc. But I don't want mud tires, and that makes the Moab a less attractive option.



So yeah, might hang on to my JK a little longer. Besides, the JL has smaller speakers and looking around there's a ton of potential issues. x_X

Along with that My Jeep runs and drives awesome...
Here is the biggest problem to date I have found with the JL the Windshield flat out sucks... the Glass is too thin even simply pushing aginst it from the inside you can see deflection outside...
I have had 4 windshields in 15 months Piece of shit
Sad to say thats the only reason I wouldnt buy one is the front glass..
I also own a JK and in 4 yrs I had one chip both similar driving habits and locations...
The windshielf for my set up is 738 bucks and They do not offere Gorilla Glass even two years later...or I would have already bought it.
It seems any rock strike at all chips or cracks the glass its bad...
I am selecting after market windshield since all lthe factory replacements have been garbage and all end up cracked with in two weeks of the replacement...
Also the after market one is a little thicker glass, just like with the JKs...

The thing that I had a question about was the re-calibration of the electronics behind the windshield. I watched a Cadi owner pay $1200 deductible out of his own pocket (his insurance paid the rest) just due to the re-calibration which Safe Lite said was required after the instalation of a new windshield. That scared the crap out of me about he new JL's. $738 is still WAY more than I pay for new windshields in my JK's. $0.00 + $20 tip to the installer.

There wasw no re calibration the mount is behind the glass it has two plugs for glass but nothing changes so there is no need for recalibration I run mine all the time never even heard it mentioned...Once...

The caddy guy had some other reason I would estimate... due to whatever reasons... But the sensor and camera are one ini the same and its the radar that judges distance not the camera... sounds kinda like a possible scam but I dont own a caddy...lol All I can do is go from what I have but its funny to see all these jeep people claiming they are frame mounted when they clearly have no idea what they are discussing... :) its all center windshield and then side and rear sensors...for proximity alerts Like I said I love my Jeep hate the windshield issues but I wouldnt trade it for the world... :)

Hmmm. Makes one wonder about the honesty of Autolite Safety Glass.

I got an attempted hit today they now are claiming its 300 to rerset and calibrate it, I declined because after three they dont have a leg to stand on its only required if its damaged in an accident and Im pretty sure they all know that... It has two wire clips on the glass there is nothing required to calibrate the head unit is in the box and in the form of a camera and Radar sensor... as long as your glass is installed as factory it should not require any other adjustments... Moine hasnt to date I figure if you can wheel and not vibrate it out of sync what would swapping the glass... dumb... I also told them I dont want Factory I want after market...maybe it will help... lol

When I said damage in an accident I mean the sensors not the jeep or windshield...just to be clear here...
