I have recently acquired a 97 Wrangler Sahara and am having problems getting the brake light over the spare tire to work. I have replaced the bulb with no luck, and have found it difficult to get a look at the wiring that is encased in the tailgate. Any and all information about this problem would be greatly appreciated

Put a brick on the brake pedal, or have a friend hold it, and check to see if you are getting voltage to the two pins in the body.

If you are, but a dab of paint or grease on one of the terminals and shut the door. open it and see if there was transfer. if there wasn't then your contacts aren't touching.

Had/have the same issue. I found the if I pushed really hard on the rear door it would light up. I adjusted the latch and still not working right. I put aluminum foil on the contacts and it is working fine. Now I just need to figure out what to do to make it a permanent fix??
