Good day at all,

I am Mathieu, writing from France. I am for 20 years fan of jeep wrangler, but seen from france, its just an exclusive car, not affordable because of it's consumption in gas. Well nevermind I finally decided to buy a wrangler unlimited 2011 (Diesel engine called 2.8 CRD 200ch), and I wanted to ask some of you about the comportment of the beast on the road, and in particular wet road. I have read its capacity were not very good, and it was not very secured. I have also heard that it was not recommended tu use 4WD event on slippery highway under hard rains...

Can someone comment on this?

bonjour mathieu. i lived in europe for 8 years, it'll be fun to drive the wrangler on the roads there. probably not for the passengers. the wrangler handles like a brick with a single spring in the center tying it to the road. be prepared to be a snail. cornering has to be done relatively slowly. but that's what makes the wrangler unique, fun, and capable off-road.

4WD shouldn't be used on pavement, unless it's covered in snow and ice. pavement has too much traction and you can wear out/bind your drivetrain. there's no need for 4WD in the rain. your main obstacle with rain is stopping, turning, and visibility, not putting power down. just slow down

Welcome. There are many here in the USA that would like to have the option to purchase the Diesel engine. It is not available to us.

I live in North West Florida and we deal with rain quite often. I have found my 2012 Wrangler Unlimited with stock tires to handle wet weather as well as any other vehicle I have owned. I drove it through some high winds (no more than 45 miles per hour) and heavy rain during a tropical storm. Again no problem as long as you drive in a normal safe manner, as you should with any vehicle.

Since the Wrangler is a high center of gravity 2 live axle vehicle the handling around corners will not be as good as a car or other cross over vehicle that has independent suspension. You will have to slow down for handling purposes.

Then again those good handling vehicles can not go over rough terrain as well as your Wrangler will plus you can remove or lower your top and take off your doors. They can not.

Enjoy the Wrangler, it is truly a unique vehicle with positives and negatives. Almost all here agree the postives outnumber the negatives.

Yes I have read that 4WD was not recomended on pavement. As Blastek, said, it will be very pleasant to drive the JK in Europe, the tropical storm are not very common here Jeeperz Creeperz. However I am glad that you post this, since there are some road or let's say Highways in the mountain, south of France, very slipery in winter, with curve and curve for 300 Kilometers, strong winds, and strong rains/ hail. I am not a crazy driver and prefer to go slowly, but sometimes even at 50 miles/hour you cannot get any adherence from a usual car ( 2WD city car for example). I was driving with a Volkswagen Golf last days, and almost had to stop, because of the wet runway. So yes I thought that using 4WD would increase efficiency of the tires, and increase security adherence, is that wrong?
