Do I follow the DIY videos and threads on here for trimming my stock JK fender flares? Or just get the aftermarket brand (assuming I still will be trimming the liners)?

Depends on your DIY comfort level, ability to live with a potential "less than perfect" outcome, and where you stand on the time/money spectrum.

It also depends on the look you are after. If the DIY fender look is what you like, then you can also go with the Smittybilt XRC fenders for just a few hundred bucks.

If you like the more "factory" look, something like the Bushwackers might work better for you, but they are over $600 for a set.

If you don't mind losing the factory fender, and as mentioned above, if potentially being less than perfect is ok, go for it.
