A few months ago I bought a pair of soft doors from a guy who said they were from a 97. Without any question I bought them in preperation for the warm weather. About a week ago I pulled off my full doors and was ready to put on the soft doors and realized the door latch did line up. The doors look like the will fit in the door frame but just do not latch. I called Bestop and they said they seem to be YJ doors but they can send me the TJ latches.

Does anyone know if these doors will line up once I install the TJ latches or is there something else I have to do?

are they lowers only? because i know for a fact the uppers wont cross over YJ and TJ windshield rake is a different angle. as far as latches go, i know that my YJ doors run the peg style latch, does the TJ have the loop style or the peg style?

The TJ has the loop style so I would have to get new latches installed, which is no big deal. They are lowers and uppers and I have no problem with a little air coming through the top of the upper, but I think i can use collar adjustments to raise the uppers a bit and close off the gap.

My question is, if I put in the new latches, will the latch line up using the YJ door frame on a TJ or will I have to do some customization? The adjustment on the lower soft door is alreay adjusted as low as it can go to the point where it is pinching by the hinge. I really don't feel like having to sell these unless I can get enough to buy the correct ones.

So after I installed new latches from Bestop on the doors, they fit just as if they were made for the TJ.

If anyone wants to know if YJ 2 piece soft doors (with rounded corners on uppers) from Bestop fit a TJ, yes they do. All you have to do is change the latches.

i see you posted this a few months ago, but im sure glad
you did. i just got a screamin deal on a set of yj soft
lowers, and was looking for the latch info you provided
here. just ordered the replacement latches.

so just to be clear, the latches are a 100% direct replacement
for the yj latches ?

thanks again for posting.

Yes the TJ latches will be a direct replacement. The doors will fit, but are a little off in regards to sealing the full door openning. You will have a few cracks here and there but for a summer door they work very well.

I know this is an old post, but I have the same issue (Jeep TJ, and score a set of Bestop YJ Soft lowers)

How much did Bestop charge you for the TJ door paddles?

Thanks!
