My gf ended up losing control of our TJ this week rolled it 1.5 times ended upside down trapped inside till fire came to save her but I must say even with soft top on the roll bar bent and twisted but did its job and saved her life. Jeep was total right off and if she was in any other vehicle may not be able to say the
same. hopefully we can get another TJ as we loved our Jeep
Ya she feeling better had cuts from glass, seat belt bruising, sore hand, and a concussion but if wasn't for roll bar may not be still here after rollover... Was taken by ambulance to hospital and released 2hrs later no broken bones which shocked me and everyone including police, fire , paramedics who responded
She is lucky - no doubt about it. I always worry that my head is going to hit the ground really hard in a rollover situation or that my arm will get smashed between the door and the ground. Another incident of why it is so dang important to wear your seatbelts!
I truly feel I owe her safe return home from our Jeep and its roll bar.. We both loved and enjoyed our Jeep so much and im saddened its now gone but happy it saved her life and that I have her home safe to hold in my arms... we will be trying to get another in future once possible . Stuck driving only our grand cherokee now just not the same.
She wore seatbelt and was trapped upside down. Fire dept couldn't open driver door so had to smash passenger window cut her out of seatbelt as she was hanging upside down. She don't remember where hit her head but from seeing Jeep I can only assume her driver door that was smashed in or windshield that was almost pushed into steering wheel. She was lucky not hurt worse
I often wondered how the A-pillar would do in a roll-over situation, and that answered my question; not to well. It also looks like if you took the doors off and cut the windshield off you would be able to drive the damn thing!
Ya I feel like I could just cut everything away and drive the Jeep just body damage to me. Lol I could fix it build better cage insurance pay more if I don't. Lol but sucks that I just changed oil and filter earlier that day maybe 20km drove before rollover. Accident happened as it was pouring rain she hit gravel on curve then panicked over steered back and forth hit ditch sideways tires hit field edge and rolled 1.5 times into a corn field
Ya we will find another TJ soon but I feel bad for the jeeple my girl keeps waving at jeep people when she passes a Jeep forgetting she now driving a "rental car kia" lol
I am on this forum because I am considering buying a Wrangler and now I read these and am concerned about rollover. Were you all normal driving when this happened?
Boomer, no need to be overly concerned or scared away. Rollovers happen, sure, but it's not like they happen to everyone. Jeeps have the stigma of being dangerous vehicles, but when in capable hands they're very safe.
(not saying the OP's girlfriend isn't capable or safe, even the best of us get into panicky, dangerous situations)
The best thing about a jeep is the fact it will take a beating an still keep going. There strong an powerful lil rigs..... Like the tug boat! Lol I agree with beefing up roll bars, that's what I did.
Im glad your girlfriends ok bud. Yeah Jeeps can be replaced she cant. Main reason my father and I didn't give my oldest son a Jeep for his 1st car was we wanted him to have more driving experience before he jumps in a lifted short wheel base vehicle. I definitely wasn't worried the Jeep wasn't safe. Seen a lot of people asking if Jeeps were safe in crashes and from all ive seen they are usually the vehicle that people walk away from in a crash. Jeeps seem to usually be the less damaged in 2 car collisions also.
Again im glad your Girls safe and home with you. Good luck in your hunt for a new jeep.
My buddies 2013 jk rubicon was t boned by a police officer the other day, rolled 3 times stopping on the driver side. The hardtop shattered, frame was twisted pretty bad and it's a complete write off. He climbed out, minimal injuries and is looking at getting another. After seeing the two crashes I'm definitely going to add a cage with an a pillar. I almost flopped last week on the trails
Years ago a buddy of mine rolled his stock TJ doing 70 mph. Rolled 4 times, would've rolled more but it hit a lamppost. He spent a few days in hospital for a concussion, and the Jeep was totaled, but he lived!
Amazingly the windshield was not even cracked.
