look for a fan and controller out of a late 90 Ford taures, they are 2 speed and come with a shroud. lots of CFM. guys use them on there full size trucks with no cooling issues

If you put an electric fan into a Jeep, what do you do with the fan and fan clutch and little nubbin that comes off of the water pump?

 

very easy to do
I replaced my fan with the two speed taurus fan
and I just did a friend brought me his jeep to do the same thing (I installed it yesterday)

I built a custom bracket for the over flow tank
other then that you just trim down the taurus fan shroud to fit
you have to mount the fan upside down for clearance
other then that its easy
and you'll notice more power

and the overflow bracket I showed him what I needed and he cut it out I wouldnt ot used sheet metal but he thinks it will be fine

OK. So I got my fan today. Set me back 14 bucks. Now I know nothing about wiring. I see people mentioning relays and such, but that means nothing to me really. What do I need? Can I just goto Auto Zone and pick up this stuff? Thanks.

 

yes auto zone has most everything I used
the low speed relay is a 40 amp but the high speed relay I had to go to napa they can look up for a 70-80 amp relay
the maxi fuse holder I picked up from walmart it was $10 and holds two fuses
one for high and one for low
I used 10 gauge wire for everything
I used a three way rocker switch for inside the cab
that switch does on off on
so I can turn off the fan for water crossings or if I need it wich I havent need to yet I can turn the fan to the high setting for the extra cooling if needed

 

do u have that connected into the ignition so you can leave the switch in the on position all the time and then switch it out when u need to?
or do u have to remember to turn it on every time ur engine warms up?

 

yep I have it to the ignition so you must have the key on to turn the fan on

 

I have the low speed fan hooked up to a thermostat so it turns on at a certain temp and off at a certain temp

 

Where in the wiring did you do that? I'm guessing the fan gets wired to the relays then the relays to the battery, but as far as the rocker switch for inside the cab and the theromstat, where does that come into play? Sorry for the all the questions.

You've got it down pretty well. just don't for get to up grade your alternator.the Ford fan pulls more amps.you can get a Dodge Durango 160 amp alternator from salvage yard or eBay for around 45 bucks.it bolts right up and uses the stock wiring plugs. for Relays they can be had at Ray's Auto at 1-770-265-1004 he the guy who builds them Ford off road guys and will custom build one for your Jeep,they are enclosed and heavy duty. just tryin to help
