Transmission probs/noises

So I was having this scratchy sound when at speeds where I'd be in 4th or 5th gear. This noise would only happen when I applied my foot even the slightest to the throttle. I changed the t-case fluid, and the tranny fluid. Now, when I drained the tranny fluid, it was sulfured (eats at synchro), had water in it, and had a good bit of metal shavings in it. Even with this, the ride is now MUCH more quiet and smooth. BUT, in 5th gear I'm getting the same noise, nut not in 4th. Did my gear bite the dust?

You're certain it's coming from the tranny? I had this little click/knock for the longest time and swore it was clutch chatter or worse....then one of my buddies put his boot on the exhaust while it was idling (when it would make the noise) and it stopped....problem was a loose bolt holding the down pipe / cat to the muffler making just enough rattle to hear. Having water in your transmission is never a good thing....
