I am looking to remove a custom grill on my Sahara and to install a Jeep factory grill.
Is there a difference between the Jeep grill designs on the Sahara and the Sport?

from what I understand - the Sahara grill has vertical inserts that are "unique" meaning you cant buy regular JK grill vertical inserts and have them fit in the location where the stock Sahara inserts were without some modification - ie - I have a Sahara with silver vertical inserts and if I want to make them black I am out of luck without extra work - but any JK grill as a whole should work ....

Depending on the model year of your Sahara, there may be a difference (but if you are installing a whole different grille it won't matter).

2016 and newer Saharas, the Recon, and many other older "special editions" (like the Polar Edition, Dragon Edition, Altitude Edition etc.) have a dual grille that has unique inserts in the slots and around the headlight openings. Rubicons, Sports and 2015 and older Saharas have the base grille.

The dual grille with the inserts has different shaped slots than the base grille. If you are buying a replacement factory grille, you can use either type as they are interchangeable, and you may be able to find a color-matched take-off on eBay, craigslist or from retailers that sell take-offs.

Wow... i just ditched my 2017 Sahara grill for a standard grill and I didn't even realize the shape of the slots was slightly different.
I was just so happy to be rid of those silver inserts. lol

They really are hideous. I have no idea what they were thinking with those!

For anyone that doesn't want to change the grill, painting those inserts black should fix it right up.

I also really dislike the body-coloured bumper inserts they did in 2016. Are those still a thing or did they stop with them?

Mine has the inserts in black and I like them, but they also kind of tie in with the black details on the hood.

I didn't mind the silver bumper trim, mostly I think because I was just used to it and it seemed kinda standard. The body coloured stuff just seemed tacky to me and something that's definitely going to get mucked up if the Jeep is used properly.

I guess I figure the silver stuff would look fine if it's scratched and gouged while the body coloured stuff looks like body panels and not as easy to dismiss.
