Ok just ordered bfg 285/70/17 AT KO . I am ordering the wheels tomorrow and can't decide between procomp 17 x 8.5 with 4.75 backspace or 17 x 9 with 4.5 backspace .The bfg chart shows rim width range between 7.5 and 9.0 and 8.5 sits right in the middle. Some people recommend the 17x9 if you go bigger but is it ok to be running the max width?

You will be better off with 9" wide rim in case you ever plan on going with larger tires. Many tires shops will mount tires on rims that meet the tire manufacturer specs.

Either size will work, but I would go with the 8.5 in width. 8.5 inch is wide enough to run 35s or 37s. My 315/70R17s are on 8 inch wide rims. 8 inch is the minimum listed for my T/A KOs. Some 35s and 37s list the minimum width as 8.5.

If you air down a lot like I do, go with the 8.5 less likely to brake your tire bead. Or get wheels with bead locks. The 8.5 wheels give the tire a bulged look because it narrower in the center

All good. Put the bfg 285/70/17 with procomp wheels with no lift. There is no rub and all the shift points are right on. Still have a smooth ride and don't notice any road noise. Thanks to the pentastar I feel the same power and have not noticed any loss. Feels like there is enough power left for bigger wheels.lol
