2015 Unlimited Sport as everyday vehicle

Wanted to hear from folks that drive their jeep as an everyday vehicle. I'm used to having trucks, and don't want to go a sedan route, and the cost of getting a new "truck" these days is to steep for my blood. I have a 94 ford bronco and now a dead 2002 Suburban. I'm not really going to be offroading, but would use the jeep as an everyday vehicle and be my primary car. My wife has a family truxter.
Am looking at basic unlimited sport. I'm used to sitting high and road noise!

You'll love it!! I have 2 trucks and the jeep. Jeep is used for all our running around town back and forth to work and just general goofing off type stuff. Even with the lift and 35" tires it is still one if the best funnest vehicles to drive. Easy parking and plenty of maneuverability for parking lots, and hey if there are no spots no sweat just park where ever you want it's a jeep!!

Is the question, should I get one for a Daily driver? I have a 50+ mile round trip everyday and enjoy every minute of it, especially doing 70 MPH on the highway with no top & half doors!

That was my next question. Your happy with it on highways? How about the occasional 5 hour road trip with 2 or 3 kids in the back? would probably be tight.

Five hour road trip also implies stuff to take. So three kids plus gear gets a little tight.
Ride is subjective. JK's won't ride like your Suburban or Bronco. I hear people say JKs ride rough, but coming from CJ,s I think they drive like a Cadillac.
Go test one, with the kids in tow.

If you have kids, the "cool" factor will smooth over the "ride" factor. Get one but get your kids input on cool things like colour.

I drive a Sport S everyday. It's my only vehicle with 4 wheels.

I was in the market for a Toyota Tacoma.

The Unlimited was easily 5k less in 2013, probably same difference now.

I chose the Jeep b/c it was way cooler and cheaper

Only cons is gas mileage sucks and can't tow much. If fuel is not a big budget item and you don't need to pull anything bigger than a utility trailer I say get it!

Recommend hard top to reduce road noise on the commute, hopefully you won't have it on very much.

I came from a Titan King cab to a JKU Sport. I love driving the thing, and do so a lot; my daily commute is ~70 miles, plus the Jeep is the family roadtripmobile, too. The gas mileage sucks, but then again, I drove a Titan before, so...

I drive a soft top unlimited daily. Drove a Wrangler SE daily before that. With the longer wheel base, the Unlimited is a joy on the road on dry days. The soft top is leaky when it rains, soaking my sleeve with every left-hand turn. But this is my 5th Jeep, and I've always considered them "amphibious" vehicles.

Daily driver here too, every day and love it. The past 2 days I've been running safari style since it's so hot out.............it's awesome

my '14 JKU is my every day commuter. 50 miles each way and love every minute of it, especially the good days when I can pull off the top and doors. We just did a 14 hour drive to visit family up north and it was great, no problems. I came from a supercharged Tundra, and I don't miss it one bit. the Jeep is kind of like riding the Harley, you're not in a hurry to get anywhere...just enjoying the ride.

I drive 70+ miles per day in mine... no problem. Sure the ride is rough, and there's not a lot of creature comforts, and it's a bit loud, but all of that contributes to the experience. I find I look forward to the drive.

I've got a soft top and the steely wheelies, and find I average ~21 mpg.

My JKU is daily driven. Granted it's a only a couple of miles to and from the train, but I love every minute of each drive. It's also our primary weekend vehicle if we're all travelling together. My wife has a fully loaded 2011 Grand Cherokee and we chose to use my new JKU for our summer vacation this year. It was a 530 mile round trip drive. We had plenty of room, with 2 suitcases and other beach gear in the back. My kids never complained about the rear seat, even when I asked if I should get the seat spacers. I think you'll be more than please with a Wrangler as your daily driver.

I just downsized from a '13 Ram Hemi Crew Cab to a '12 JKU Sport. It's my DD, and you'll be fine.

I have three boys, 14, 12, and 9, and while there is the occasional outburst (mainly from the 9 yr old as he has to sit in the middle and can't see out the sides), it's fine. And my 14 yr old is 5'10" already......I made him sit behind me (I'm 6'1") on the test drive to make absolutely sure there was enough room for everybody. It is a tad crowded, but the Jeep is about 2 feet skinnier than my Ram or your Burb.

We driven it with a fully loaded pop up tent trailer (loaded with gear, and kids, soft top, doors on) about 3 1/2 hours one way, and the kids (and us) survived.

As for the daily driving....I find any excuse I can to get out and drive it!

It sits nice and high, (no difference I've noticed from the Ram), and if you have a soft top, oh, yes, there will be road noise....

And as for the gas, you should save quite a bit over the Burb. I went from 20L per 100km in the Ram in town, to 14L per 100km in the Jeep. And I'm not nearly as gas conscious with the Jeep as I was the Ram. Up here in Canada, gas is about $1.10 Cdn for a litre, so for every 100km I drive, I save myself about $6 just by switching to the Jeep.

As well, my insurance dropped $40 a year by going to the Jeep from the Ram.

Just another reason for you to pull that trigger.

Totally unbiased here, but.... DO IT.

Don't have kids and don't travel far (~5 miles a day round trip). My JKU is my daily driver and replaced a 1st generation pathfinder with 6" of lift and 33s. To me it rides like a luxury car comparatively and gets better MPG! Plus I can go topless/doorless, best DD I've ever had!

Recently purchased a 15 JKU sport with auto and 3:73 gears. It replaced a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is my bad weather, winter weather, daily driver as I do not wish to use my Challenger in that capacity. With the nice weather I am finding myself torn between the Challenger and my JKU. Either go fast car or take the top off and just cruise. In the months time I have owned it, my wife has ridden in and driven my JKU more than she has in 2 years time of owning a Challenger LOL.

While we have no kids, I cannot comment on that aspect. I can say that on the short trips we have taken with ours, it has taken a bit to get used to. IE: a live axle vs independent suspension. Not a bad thing, just different. Mileage, I am avg about 18 mpg, overall comfort for myself is very good, Not as good as my Wifes 13 Grand Cherokee Overland, but that is built for comfort in mind. It is more than acceptable and I find myself wanting to drive the jeep more so than any of the other vehicles we have. To me the biggest thing to get used to is going from a V8 to a V6 motor.

Overall, I find it very enjoyable and fun to drive as a Daily driver. I am very pleased to have made the purchase and my wife (strong critic) is very pleased as well.

It's a jeep forum so we all like jeeps! That being said I think it's all subjective. I drive mine daily 15 miles to work and 15 back and it's fine. I drove it 5 hours once and it was a bit rough but then again I love my jeep and see it as part of the experience. May car before the Jeep was a 2010 Acura TL and a Volvo S60 before that - I don't really miss them, especially when the top is down or I'm barreling through a snow storm. The gas mileage is not great but I was doing premium gas with the last two cars so regular is a treat and my insurance rate went down too!

I daily drive my JKU Sport without a problem... And drive with the top down as much as possible. My 26 month old loves the ride too, and always asks for the Jeep rather than my wife's car.
However, I do find it tiring with the top off on the freeway when driving for while. But then I put the top back up.
I don't miss my Acura TL either!
