I have the 81-370-15063-SUSB service manual for the 2015 JK, and I found that there is a discrepancy for the knock sensor torque. The installation instructions state to torque the sensor to 16 ft-lbs, but the torque table in that section states 15 ft-lbs. They make it clear that either over or under torquing the sensor will affect its operation, so what is the correct torque?

How accurate is your torque wrench?

Normally I'd agree with you, but there is a specific warning about over or under torquing this fastener. There is no way to know what the tolerance is on the torque value because it's not stated, however, the sensor might be sensitive enough to be affected by less than 12 inch-lbs. If we assume the tolerance is 12 inch-lbs and the true nominal is 180 inch-lbs, then if I set to 192 inch-lbs and my torque wrench is .9% high at 194 inch-lbs, I would be out of tolerance by 1.7 inch-lbs.

21 Nm is 15.489 ft-lbs, and 22 Nm is 16.226 ft-lbs. I'd go 16 ft-lbs, which is half way in between (rounding to the closest ft-lb).

I didn't notice that the Nm values were slightly different from the Ft-lb values. That actually works out favorably because 21nm is 185.5 in-lbs, and if tolerance is +/- 12 inch-lbs then it would be acceptable to be within 173.5 to 197.5 inch-lbs. 22nm is 194.72 inch lbs, and with a +/- 12 inch-lb tolerance it would be acceptable to be within 182.7 to 206.7 in-lbs. The overlap between the two ranges would be 182.7 inch-lbs to 197.5 inch-lbs, so 192 inch-lbs (16 ft-lbs) would be right in the middle of the range. My torque wrench at .9% high would read 193.7 inch-lbs at a 192 inch-lb setpoint, so I would still be within tolerance at a 192 inch-lbs (16 ft-lbs) setpoint.

I think I will leave my 2 turn tables and a microphone alone when I change my oil filter housing.
Apparently they are sensitive and folks are not sure how tight to get them even with advertised torque settings.
If it ain’t broke …I am not fixing it will be my philosophy on those.
