Current setup.

35" Tires
Stock 30 Spline Axles Rear
Stock Carrier
3.73 Ring and Pinion

Switching to 4.88 gears soon and was thinking about going to 35 spline axles. My thoughts are I am already upgrading to a ox locker in the rear and if I am going to dish the cash out once on the locker I might as well go 35 spline g2 chromoly.

I know if I go 30 spline chromoly I could keep the stockers for trail swaps. Honestly what is the probability of a 35 spline breaking with 35"s? Building this rig for drive to trail have some fun and go home.

Keeping that in mind I scream to myself buy 30 spline carrier and buy 30 spline chromoly and keep originals so I can swap them in if necessary.

For 35" tires, which is as big as the TJ's Dana 30 and Dana 44 are able to handle long-term, stick with a good quality hardened chromoly alloy 30 spline axle shaft like one from Revolution Gear & Axle (the only USA made axle shafts for the TJ). The probability of breaking a good quality hardened alloy 30 spline shaft with lockers and 35's on even a very tough trail are pretty much nil.

I've been running that combination for 13-14 years and it's been bulletproof on even some very tough rock crawling trails. I have twisted the OE carbon steel 30 spline factory rear shafts and broken a front Dana 30 shaft on 35's while rock crawling but no problems since switching both axles to hardened alloy shafts many years ago.

This is what I recommend and have been running... https://www.4lowparts.com/shop/axles-and-gears/dana-44-rear-axle-kit-jeep-tj-xj/

Not to mention by running 35 spline shafts on a TJ you run the risk of breaking something further up the drivetrain that could be absolutely catastrophic and not repairable on the trail.

G2's are not the same thing, they are ProComp's house brand made for them by Genuine Gear and are imported from someplace like India or China. That said, G2 seems to be decent but personally, I'd rather have the American made RGA axle shafts.

Whatever axle shaft brand you choose, make darned sure to tell them whether you have drum or disk brakes in the rear. That way you'll get the correct axle shaft retainer plate. At least it will if you order the RGA kit from 4Low Parts, they're aware of that difference.
