92-95 Sahara Edition Colors and Decal Variants

Hey all,

I'm new around here and I've got a question maybe some Jeep historians can answer. I'm trying to figure out what were the color variants on 92-95 Saharas. I'm deliberately excluding prior YJ models because it looks like those had different patterns.

I know it was basically two main colors: green metallic or sand beige with the green seats. Then the dash, door panels, center console and recliners could be either cinder (gray) or spice (tan), and the carpeting either dark green or spice.

The decals are a bit more confusing, as I've seen two main variants:

- Jeep/WRANGLER & 4.0 logos in red letters + red/spice stripes, commonly seen in green metallic cars.

Collin Bros currently has a Sahara for sale with a third variant though: Jeep/WRANGLER & 4.0 logos in spice letters + red/spice stripes on a metallic green car. The red/spice stripes are also inverted with red on top. Main difference I noticed on this Jeep is that it comes with the spice interior, but I've also seen other spice models that have the same decals as the gray/green cars.

Not sure about the silver grille but I assume that was a custom preference from whoever ordered it originally?

And now the weirdest one. Last year, a 92 Sahara was up for sale in Spain with completely different colors: interior is gray/green. Exterior however looks like a military style Sage Green in matte finish, with black/spice stripes and lettering. Not to mention what appears to be lighter colored fender flares. Not sure if any of this was modified later but I met the owner and they claim it's unmodified. The car was a US import to Luxembourg and was kept in its original condition, they say. Was 92 a different year? The design doesn't seem to match the 86-91 patterns either.

Anyways. I just figured someone around here might know. I'm considering getting one of these guys and I've been researching them lately. It's all mostly out of curiosity, because if I eventually went for one, I'd like to either keep it as is or restore it to its original design.

I am no Jeep historian by any means, just making an observation, but someone painted the 92. Two reasons, matte wasn’t a thing in the 90s. Everything was polished and shinny. And 2, the fender flares are not paint matched like they are in the other 3 models.

The fender flares are that color because they have been bleached out by the sun. Plastics in the 80s and 90s really sucked. Cracked , broke and faded easily.

I had a 94 YJ Sahara in the Desert Tan (I think thats what it was called) with a olive green soft top, green seats, dark grey dash, green carpet, green center console and tan roll bar padding. I didnt buy it new in 94, it was used with 9k miles on it. I also had a friend who had a 91 or 92 that was “flat” tan. Petty bass ass but didnt hold up well in Las Vegas sun. They seemed to be going for the SAS desert look back then. Pretty awesome trim - wish they would build that type again instead of the luxury sahara. I’ll look for some pics later and post em if I can find them

Welcome to the Forum @liberance

I'm wondering if the Jeep that Collins has is an imposter. Anyone can buy stripes and add them to any vehicle. (Note-the stripe colors are inverted, no driving lights and wrong bumper.) The chrome grill was a factory option or a later aftermarket add on.
Can you run the VIN through Mopar?

Good Luck, L.M.

Someone posted another 92 with the strange color variant on a Facebook YJ group a couple of days ago. Considering the year matches the Spanish Jeep, could this be a transitional design in between the 80s Saharas (lighter color) and the 90s Saharas (darker shade of green)?

Really like it in any case. I think the "Jeep" logo pops up more in spice against lighter green than the dark red/dark green used more commonly.

EDIT:

Yep, looks like it is. Just confirmed by the owner of another 92 with this pattern. It looks like it was unique to that year.
