Adding a muffler to an aftermarket exhaust, what do I need to think about?

Hey,

So ive got a flowmaster american thunder (817674) fitted on my 2017 JKUR and it needs to be muffled quite a bit. Would prefer not to loose all of the tone but closer to stock is what im trying to achieve.
Do I need to consider anything in particular or can I just slap on any muffler of my choosing that has a 2.5" inlet and outlet? Since im not in the US, importing things is quite expensive.

Ive looked at a cat back system from Walker but that sets me back about ~600 usd with taxes, shipping etc included. Along with having the flowmaster being basically useless and worth 0.

Thanks for any input.

Why not keep the discussion in your other exhaust thread?

Take it to a exhaust shop and tell them it's too loud. They'll fix it for you, and you don't need to do a thing

Wanted to get specific advice on the exhaust and not have it split between different questions - thats why.

Also, dont have an exhaust shop where I live and the wrangler as a vehicle is a rarity so im mostly on my own when it comes to solving issues.

Run a muffler like a Super Turbo or a Ultra Flo Round to knock the tone down.
This is used often to help muffle... and will not restrict flow.

You are going to need to get under there and see what type of room you have. @gravitywell is correct even though he is being a bit snipity. Adding a resonator which is generally installed prior to the muffler will not add any restrictions, not really muffler down the sound, it will change the frequency. You could also look at just adding another muffler with a short turndown style muffler, something like this:

Never said he was wrong. Just dont like his attitude/tone.

The flowmaster ends (the pipe) a few inches after the sway bar, so i've got all the room the stock muffler took up so that wont be an issue. Since it's already fit with a resonator ill just go ahead and add a muffler where the stock one used to go now that I know flow wont be an issue.

As I recommended in the other thread, put the exhaust back to stock using a Walker replacement muffler. This notion the factory exhaust is restrictive is nonsense. What do you think you're gaining with the perception of improving exhaust flow on a crappy 3.6L Pentastar?

Here's what I'm gonna do this summer:

magnaflow 12266
A couple of bends, + exhaust clamps with them hooks to hang it from the rubber thingys.

All about 250€ (Finland), DIY, no welding. This will give you two tailpipe setup, which adds about 25 hp (happypoints) 😃

I bet you have a store that delivers Magnaflow within Swedish borders? If not, checkout US Parts in Finland, no taxes no customs.
