Hi everyone, I have a guy bring me his jeep to work on. His rear end is an early amc 35 (1989). the pinion bearing came apart and i have order parts and cleaned it up. My question is can a dana 35 pinion shaft work in a amc 35. The reason i ask is the large pinion bearing from the kit is wrong (hm88649) this pinion takes a (hm88648) larger bearing which is the same that is in the dana 35"c".
I am trying to figure out if it came apart because he has swapped parts around or if its something else.
thanks

I googled AMC 35 vs. Dana 35 and at the NAXJA forum the posters seem to state that they are the same.

Base on that research, I would use whatever bearing fit properly.
By Dana35"c" do you mean the rear axle with "c" clips holding the axles in the differential?
When did Jeep go to the Dana35 with the clips.

Unless the rear axle has been changed it should be a Dana35. Chrysler took over Jeep for the 1987 model year. After that there was no AMC.

Good Luck, L.M.

85-89 there was a dana 35 that had bolt on axles, larger brake drum, and a bit bigger axles. in 1990 they went to the dana 35c (c stands for custom) but its the one that has c clips that holds the axle in.
the only reason i called it an Amc 35 was due to the rebuild kit. the dana 35c kit had different axle bearings.
i have never built this type of rear end before, a bunch of dana 35 c's.
