Another Oil Filter Question

Anyone have experience or thoughts about Castrol oil filters? I got it on Amazon for around $10. It says that its an extended mileage oil filter good up to 20k miles but I would never leave oil in my Jeep that long. I usually change it every 5k miles but have run it to 7k before. I only use 5w-30 synthetic oil and started with Royal purple when I first got my JK in 2017, then ran Valvoline before switching to Penzoil Platinum. I am going to give Castrol Edge Extended (Gold Bottle) a try this weekend with the Castrol filter. And yes, I know this filter is for a 2014-2018 engine while mine is a 2012. I had to replace my oil filter adapter housing at 108k miles because the o-rings were slowly starting to leak and I retrofitted my Jeep with the latest 2014 style OEM part.

I use the MOPAR engine oil filter, and 5W30 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum oil, in our JKR. The same in our JLR, but 0W20 in our JLR. Our engines do not have the 3.6 engine tick issues, that so many are having. It is not so much what ones uses, as long as it is 3.6 approved, but rather that one changes there engine oil often enough. I am not going to specify what often means, because it will start a oil war..LOL

I've always used Wix filters for all my vehicles. There is a LENGTHY oil filter thread on here if you search.
Agreed, I use Mopar, or Wix. I've seen others like Mobile 1 and Fram deform and collapse under load and use. It's not worth saving a few bucks at the risk of the engine.

Unlike most vehicles that use a cartridge filter, the oil filter on the Wranglers 3.6 V6 is just the filter element. So you can see if it is a good filter or a junk filter.
I would look at it and see if it appears to be well made or not.
That said, I don't typically use filters I don't trust. I trust Mopar filters and Wix filters. I do not trust Fram filters or filters sold by people who don't make them (likely Castrol did not actually make that filter). But, as mentioned, the filter element for the 3.6 is exposed, not hidden inside a metal casing. So you can see it and decide for yourself.

I have used only Mopar filters on my 2015 JKU 3.6 l. Oils have been either Valvoline Synthetic or Pennzoil UP, 5W20. Both oils meet the Mopar standard. I change the oil between 5,000 to 7,500 miles. At 84k miles now, no tick, doesn’t “burn” oil. I also continue to keep a close eye on the oil filter-cooler assembly and , so far so good. I def take my time when replacing the oil filter and (very) gently tighten the filter assembly into place.

I dont run a filter... decided its too risky for that spring thingy to break and go down into the oil pan and cause damage.

that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
