So I have bigger tires trying to turn Dana 30/35 with 3.07 gears (1997, 6cyl, 5spd). Found used Dana 30/35 (4.10 gears) set for cheap, could not pass up. Now that I have them I am trying to formulate a plan of the best way to get these swapped in.
Planning on doing the rear axle first. This will give me a chance to test out 4.10 gearing (2wd, not going to mess up my front by using 4wd with non-matching gears).
So I plan to de-rust with wire brush wheel and repaint. Then...?
Not sure how to handle:
1. Brake cable - disconnect at drum and reuse current? Mine is fine and I think this will avoid tearing apart the console to disconnect the e brake handle.
2. Fluid change - wait until after it is in or just do it while out? Easier with it out and can check gears while cover is off.
3. Control arms - planning on taking off the rusted arms that are attached to the axle and reuse what is on the Jeep
4. Anything else that I should do before installing?
I have never done an axle swap before so any advice would be apprecited.
