Given work involved in removing the head do not chance it get a new one

Gotta send it back. Looks like it was folded in half and the fire rings were bent. That's the most crucial area of the head gasket. There's a chance that it would seal fine but you wouldn't feel good about a damaged head gasket being part of your engine. You definitely wont want to do that job again if it fails. Manifold bolts can be a pain in the d*ck, plus the cost of materials.

 

Send it back -- you purchased a new undamaged part.. You're asking for issues and a re-do attempting to use.

I'm normally not picky and try not to return things often, but probably best in this case. Rock Auto says they will ship a new one.

Understandable. I never return tools. If they're poorly machined or they don't work as I envisioned, I'll bite the bullet and try to repair them myself. But a head gasket? Especially Fel-Pro, RockAuto probably has a thousand of those things lying around.

 

Had a similar problem with autozone, but with an intake/exhaust gasket. Finally went to oreillys and got one unbent. Three times autozone tried to give me a bent gasket. I’ll only buy local gaskets now, because I’m not going to spend hours to replace a part twice because I got it two dollars cheaper online.

 

Haha yep good point. If the second one is bent I'll grab one locally.

RA did a better job of packing this one (in a box with bubble wrap vs just in a sheet of cardboard the first time).
