What is everyone's consensus on the best mirrors for use with the doors off? Lots of options out there, most reviews are mixed.

Thanks

There are some new ones out there that fit in the hinges with foot pegs. I would have bought a set but I already have mirrors that mount in the hinge and separate foot pegs. They come in different colors.

You talking about the Kikbax? I picked those up! They're a little pricey for something so basic, but they fit and work perfectly! I would recommend them for anyone looking for something that can go on and off in a couple seconds.

I agree. And the nice thing about these over the ones that pop into the upper door hinge is they still work if you're running tube doors that don't have mirrors on them.

For a budget solution, I'm very happy with the Outback Safari mirrors that mount in the upper door hinge. I will probably end up buying a set of quick releases and a spare set of the factory mirrors at some point but when the doors are off it's very easy to just look before changing lanes. Where I live exterior rearview mirrors aren't required anyway.

I've got a set of these. They're not bad. They shake a bit on the highway, (See my 30 second Youtube Video below) but it's acceptable. They're a cheap method of adding mirrors in areas like mine where they are required.

The vent mirrors are a good idea, but I don't know if the local cops will accept them because they aren't really outside. Plus, they block the heat that I sometimes use on chilly mornings :)

For me, it's a no brainer.

Dietech makes these mirror relocation brackets that allow you to run a stock JK mirror with the doors off. Super rigid, great view, no vibration...

I hit a junkyard for a second set of mirrors, then pop these on/off in a matter of minutes.

There's really only 2 consensus opinions on doorless mirror selection.
1. Those that got the Dietech mirror brackets.
2. Those that got something else, and wish they had gotten the Dietechs instead. (This group is often in denial, so be forewarned). ;)

Dietech often makes their stuff to order, although their website says it's out of stock. I ordered mine when they were out of stock, had them in 2 weeks.

Surprised people like the rugged ridge quick release mirrors. I have a set and really hate them. Took the mounts off last week.

-Despite years of complaints, they still whistle unless you mod them (easy fix, but still)
-Mine vibrated badly
-No matter how tight they were, they'd occasionally move after hitting a bump/pothole

I also dislike the way they look.

If I have no doors / lowers only, I use Carolina Metal Master's mirror that goes with their grab handles.

I bought a second OEM mirror and will attach it to my lower half door for when I'm running uppers.

I'm eyeballing these:
JustAddMud JK JAMirror

I got my JKU end of October here in the great white north, so the top and doors have never been off - can't wait for spring!
For a very similar price, you could get the DieTech mirror brackets and an extra set of OEM style mirrors.

There's a few nice things about the DieTech mirror setup you may want to consider.
- You're using the OEM mirrors, so it's the same mirrors that have the same view, adjustment and are already familiar with when driving with your doors on. No adapting back and forth between the mirrors regardless if you're driving with or without doors.
- The OEM mirrors don't vibrate, whistle or have any other common problems associated with the other non OEM mirror setups.
- The mirrors can be folded in and then back out into their original adjusted position if you need to move them temporarily out of the way to maneuver around any objects that may come in contact with the mirrors.
- It's a solid mount setup, not loose at all and are exactly the same as the OEM mirrors.
- While the mirrors you're looking at have magnets, which are convenient, magnets vibrate and slide around and will eventually scratch the paint in your door jams.

I know they're a bit pricey but I really liked the Quadratec Mirror Movers. The mirror no longer attaches to the door but to your windshield bracket. It puts the mirror in the stock location so they work is good as your stock mirrors but they stay on when you take the doors off.

A few months ago I picked up a set of the powered/heated automatic mirror movers.

I absolutely love them. Puts the mirror in the stock location with doors on or off, doesn't need to be removed with doors on or off, doesn't vibrate, doesn't whistle, and retains the power/heated mirror functions.

Pricey, but such a huge upgrade over the hinge mounted mirrors I had previously that I don't care.

For less than $12 at my local auto parts store, I took two 6" convex mirrors and attach them to the A pillar. Fast and easy to mount/dismount and it doesn't look bad. I use the bracket that comes with the mirrors and the factory screw off the pillars. It is larger than the convex on the vent thing.

paragraph 1 says all vehicles with barriers that block vision need mirror(s) doesnt say that vehicles that dont have barriers dont need mirrors. ie motorbikes

and since 2 is a new section, it has nothing to do with section 1. its saying any vehicle made with mirrors needs to have the mirrors in place

Maybe things are different in Canukistan, but having lived here 56 years I can tell you not one LEO will even give a Jeep with it's doors off and no mirrors a 2nd look. What you are reading, that I posted, is instructions for the mechanics doing State of Missouri Safety inspections. It has nothing to do with the real world.

I've had the JustAddMud mirrors and foot pegs for about a year and no complaints. No whistling. Just drop them in and you're good to go. Now if someone can figure why I want to stick my left foot out of the Jeep whenever I drive doorless let me know.

Rugged Ridge Stubbies...

So for the JK I decided to try to Rugged Ridge Stubbies even though I had read a lot about them moving around and making a whistling noise.

Both issues are easily fixed making them great mirrors.

Noise: run a new razor blade along the rubber where it meets the steel part of the mirror cutting off the excess that sticks out. That rubber does nothing to hold the mirror in place. You will end up with a smooth edge and no more noise.

Movement: Throw away all of the hardware they come with... junk. Run a new bolt and washer with a fender washer as a spacer, you now can tighten them and the arm will not move. As for the mirror itself, they are truck mirrors... the three little phillips head screws on the back will lock them in place once adjusted.

I'll post up a pic next time I put them on.

These are from a local place near Denver called High Country 4X4. They are motorcycle mirrors adapted with a bracket for the Jeep.

Nice visibility, easy to adjust and remove and they don't vibrate.

$75 each so not cheap, but they are great with doors off.

I have Harley mirrors for both sides. Unfortunately, in my haste to go doorless, I picked up a set of short arm mirrors when a long arm set would've been better. I use the passenger side mirror on the lower hinge for parallel parking purposes. (It's too short to be seen on the upper hinge.)

Agreed that this is a really easy solution. My set doesn't even require a wrench, and they're so small I just keep them under the seats. I'd kinda like to replace them with something like the Qtec hinge mirrors at some point, though... something with a bigger actual mirror.

I got these JustAddMud JK JAMirror the only issue I had is that as-is like most of the mirrors out there the passenger side is difficult to use because they sit about even with the dash. I had a guy in the machine shop at work make extenders for the arms on mine and had a welder seal the seal so mine sit about 8 inches higher that the way they came which for me is just about perfect. I'll try and scare up a pic or 3
