As the title states, I'm looking for a rear bumper and tire carrier. What is everyone running?

What's better? A bumper with a tire mount? A tire carrier with separate bumper? Reinforced hinges that are separate from the bumper?

Those of you that have fabricated your own bumper... Did you use a kit? What kit?

I've heard good things about the rock hard 4x4 bumper and tire carrier combo, but the $1200 price tag has me concerned that I can buy a separate tire carrier and bumper for less with the same function.

Let me hear it all, this is an open discussion.

That's a good thought. I want to make this jeep capable for just about anything. I guess if I was in and out of the back alot, it could be a pain to open one then open the other.

I take it your suggestion would be to keep the stock mount, get a reinforcement kit, then upgrade the bumper itself? Thanks for the reply!

Take a look at Dirtworx. Robert can build anything you want. Very reasonably priced and the quality is excellent. I've had his swing out bumper for ten years. Still rock solid, no rattles. He ships in bare steel and you finish it.

I like that. How is the swing out carrier built?

I havent any experience with them as I've never owned them..I've read that some just have two pipes one just smaller than the other where grease is pped between the two pipes. I've also read some have ball bearings, and I've read that some actually use trailer hub bearings.
