Don't have much to add here but if it's bumper mounted you'll likely have a second step opening your tailgate. I'm in the back of my truck frequently and i think I'd tire off that quickly.

 

That's a good thought. I want to make this jeep capable for just about anything. I guess if I was in and out of the back alot, it could be a pain to open one then open the other.

I take it your suggestion would be to keep the stock mount, get a reinforcement kit, then upgrade the bumper itself? Thanks for the reply!

I like that. How is the swing out carrier built?

I havent any experience with them as I've never owned them..I've read that some just have two pipes one just smaller than the other where grease is pped between the two pipes. I've also read some have ball bearings, and I've read that some actually use trailer hub bearings.

 

hyline in my opinion is what i have i looked at all of them hands down the best and made in the USA

 

This one is NICE. you don't have to swing open the tire carrier then swing open the rear door.

How has it held up over time with the weight of the tire?

 

I prefer the reinforced gate and then the Teraflex tire mount.

Anyone else running an aftermarket tire carrier with good reviews? Possibly one with bad reviews?
