Coating inside of frame w/gear oil?

Just bought a 2005 Unlimited, my first Jeep! Love it so far, and of course am dreaming about all the mods to do to it....."Just Empty Every Pocket" keeps entering my mind.

The frame looks great at 81,000 miles, and I'd like to keep it that way for many years to come.

The thought hit me - would coating the inside of the frame with used gear oil/motor oil be a good idea? I'm thinking I could take a pump sprayer or pump, and make a hose with a couple of holes in the end as a nozzle, and insert it into the frame, and spray the inside with the oil. I'd probably have to heat the gear oil up a bit to make it pump able.

I could see this getting sticky and attracting dirt - would that make rusting worse?

I'm planning on dropping the transfer case skidpad (once I have some spare inserts and bolts in hand), and giving the frame a thorough cleaning/prime/paint which should protect the outside of the frame.

Instead of gear lube ,use trans oil mixed with kerosene. It will soak deeper in ,is less sticky and will only attract a small amount of dirt. Trans oil is less harmful to wiring than motor oil. 3 parts trans oil to 1part K1.

Oiling with used engine oil was a moonlighting profession for many in the 70's/80's in the Great Lakes States where winter road salt digested steel bodies in less than 5 years.
The practice stopped when it was realized that used oil was acidic ( sulfuric acid is a combustion by-product.) and ate away the sheet metal quicker.
There still are some that undercoat with new oil. Most use commercial products with polymeric formulations that last longer, protect better and add sound dampening.
