Thanks for posting this video. When I watched it the other day I decided that I'd rather push the button than have the annoying dash lights. Unconnected connectors that aren't well protected have a tendency to get corroded or gunked up.

If it stayed off when pressed instead of resetting every time you get in, I would be ok. I forgot to press it yesterday, was trying to pull out of a parking lot and didn’t noticed it had kicked in and shut off the motor. When I went to pull out into traffic, the lag for the starter to start the motor back up for me was unacceptable. I didn’t hammer down on the gas or anything, but that little bit of delay isn’t something I want to worry about or have to deal with.

In the end, yes I’m trying to retrain my habits to turn it off every time I get in, but I will be working on a more permanent solution that doesn’t require disconnecting anything or that could negatively impact any other systems.

I was at Easter Jeep Safari this week. Dozens of JLs, both 2 and 4 doors. Most had the ESS disabled via a hack with a small module in the ODB port. The module also changed shift points, adjusted for tire size, etc The few folks I talked to said it was readily available on the interweb but did not seem to come from one of our main vendors. On a side note, the JLs were tearing up the trails like no ones business, tackling the hard stuff and making it look easy. Most on 35s keeping up with the 37s & 40s. Very impressive.

They sell a harness to plug in under the dash to make the computer remember your last settings before you shut the vehicle off. It was 1xx bucks and well well WELL worth it. Vehicle remembers I had the ESS off when I shut my jeep off. When starting it up, the ESS is off. And best of all, easily disconnects if you need to service vehicle. Best mod I did so far!

I hate it too, forget about the starter wear and tear, how about your hot oil dropping back down into the pan 100 times a day only to have to be pumped up to the top of the engine at every stop light. Yea i'm sure that's gonna be good for engine life. Chrysler probably gets a big tax break from the government for "saving gas and cutting pollution " and when your engine wears 10 years sooner than normal you can go buy a new Jeep. Win-win for them.

Bingo! Trust me the last thing on any automaker's mind was ESS extending engine life. They were looking for CAFE credits. If I were to buy a vehicle equipped with ESS I would disable it on the dealer's lot if possible before driving it home. I say if possible because there are some vehicles with no button to turn it off. In that case the only way I'd buy the vehicle is if there is a fix like an aftermarket dongle with a proven track record of being able to disable the system.

I bought the tazer jl for my jlu and it not only remembers my ESS choice but allows so many other tweaks. My favorite is the ability to add additional cameras to the vehicle. I am going to add 2 side cameras to the jeep sometime this summer that will allow me full view of the sides of the vehicle when my turn signals are activated. The screens display on the uconnect monitor. I am also contemplating mounting a camera on the front of the jeep to help with front visibility.

Until I get the cameras and mount them I have my backup camera configured to come on when I use my turn signals. It isn't perfect but when my doors are off I have better visibility than without it.

Known issue is that the Tazer JL drops the ball periodically in regard to ESS Disable. Joe at ZAutomotive is aware of this fact but has not been able to tender Tazer JL firmware that gets ESS Disable working correctly. Right now expect to see intermittently, the Tazer JL not disabling ESS on occasion.. It does most of the time but... Hopefully, Joe will get it fixed but he has not been able to for many months now.

For a device that works perfectly 100% of the time in regard to ESS Disable and the JL, do install a Smart Stop Start unit that was mentioned earlier in this thread. Do know that there are guys running both the Smart Stop Start and a Tazer JL, just because the Tazer JL drops the ball ESS disable wise.

I'm like a Dog (in lots of ways but...) I have trained myself to Get in- buckle up- push two(2) Buttons one to "Start" the Jeep and one to "Stop" the ESS.

I am also in the habit of looking at the switch when I approach my first stop of each trip to make sure the light is on.

Sounds more involved than it is. Pretty simple actually.

* There is lots of stuff to do these days when firing up the Jeep what's one more..... Do I wish it wasn't there? Yes but it is.

I put my phone in the 67 Designs holder, check my mirrors, select a gear, look around - it's a whole "Ta-Do" .... Now I know how Tom Cruise felt in Top Gun :)

Automatic stop/start system

New to this so if this question (at the end) has been asked before, sorry. I just got a new 2019 Jeep Wrangler 4 door with a 2.0 L. First of all love it except for the stupid automatic stop/start system to me it is useless because it will add worst problem down the road. Since the engineers had to create it why didn't they create it correctly? When I see a light that means something is on not off, so when I press the automatic stop/start system button to turn it off shouldn't the light be off? Now my question why can't this be corrected by reversing two wires?

where the edit is
Sorry forgot to add this, since can't figure. Seems to me then the automatic stop/start system would always be off, until you turned it on.
