Went Kayaking yesterday to the coast it's about 5 hours round trip. Before I left I was strapping my kayak to the top of my Jeep. The Jeep was on and I was on my rock rails tugging on the straps and the jeep was rocking and and I heard a chime went down to the interior and the check engine light came on. I've only had the check engine light come on for gas cap. Went to the AutoZone and was told it was a P0302 misfire?

I looked on google for some info from other people and read some stuff but I wanted to hear what you guys think.

My Jeep is a 2014 JK. I removed the battery cable and reset all codes as my OBD2 was giving me issues. Jeep is smooth on the Highway no loss of power actually I felt no difference driving the 5 hour trip to the coast and back.

If my Jeep is a 2014 and it has less than 100K miles on it am I covered for powertrain still. My Jeep is my primary means of trans I can't afford for it to go down and now I am worried.

It could be the drivers cylinder head problem that plagued some of the 2012's and early 2013's is rearing it's ugly head. 2014 was not exempt it seems. I'd keep listening for a tick coming from that side of the engine. P0302 is referring to a miss in cylinder #2, you cleared it, hopefully it doesn't come back.

The p0302, specially if it has happened more than once and regularly is typically a sign that it has the infamous head issue. Mine happened at 37k miles, took it in. Dealership kept it for a day and said that it did have the head issue and replaced the head. Mine is a 2014 too. Jeep has extended the warranty coverage on that to 150k. Mine was a p0304, which is still the Driver side head. Take it to the dealership.

I've got a 2016 Wrangler [Sahara] that recently had the CEL come on. Long story short, I couldn't get it to generate any codes (doing the 3 ignition turns), so I took it to the dealership exactly 2 weeks ago. They diagnosed the problem as a P0302 [#2 cylinder misfire]. They put me in a courtesy vehicle (2019 Wrangler) and said that they would be contacting Chrysler about what needs to be done. After several days passed, from when I dropped off my jeep, the dealership called and said that they going to have to replace the cylinder and some other stuff,...I was in a noisy room and didn't quite hear everything. Still waiting. Anyhow the courtesy vehicle/loaner that I was given is a 2019 Wrangker,...it only had about 300 miles on it..., and today, the CEL came on. I also happened to glance in my side view mirror, and saw a little bit of gray/smoke looking stuff come from the exhaust upon turning the vehicle on. I got out to see if more was coming out, but it stopped. Now I have to call the dealership on Monday to let them know about the CEL on the 2019 Wrangler loaner that they gave me to use.

2014 P0302 issue

Just got back from the dealer and they just informed me the P0302 code is a bad cyclinder head. Intialy when I bought it brand new after the first oil change the engine developed the "tick". They looked at changed some stuff and called it a day. Tio them it was fixed but still "ticked". After a year now I'm getting the P0302. After the 1st time took to the dealer. It's ok. couple of days later it popped up again and now they say the head is bad of course left side. Now they are saying it's not covered under extended warranty because of known issue. I'm at a loss on what to do. The jeep has under 50,000 miles. Any help or guidance to take to the dealer or options

Lydia,

Thank you for reaching out. I spoke with a JeepCares team member of yours and unfortunately my 2014 Jeep JKU Sahara is an International model and JeepCares only extended to the USA market. I really appreciate the help. If you have any information on international models having this issue or possible replacement under extended warrant

Hi BravoFoxtrot5811,
Thank you for letting me know. Unfortunately, we don't have the appropriate resources to access this information for international models but if you'd like to let us know where you're located, we can try and connect you with that countries customer care team.

Well gang the Jeep is back and so quite I wonder if it is running at all. The dealer worked with us on labor cost, but here in Japan it's still expensive. Approximately $2800 for everything. Again, Japan has different rules as far as warranty issues. The only time it was that quite is when I first bought and before my first oil change.

My 2016 Jeep had P0302 and I changed the plugs, Changed coil pack and still have code. Next step I moved the coil packs around to see if I had a bad one and still got P0302 code. Now at a Jeep dealer and they say its a cylinder problem and want to change the head and gaskets. This is ridiculous for not having that many miles on it either.
Who do I need to contact to find out if Jeep extended the warranty on this issue or if a recall is present?

I had the P0301 code for the #1 cylinder. I thought it was plugs also, but it turned out to be that a lifter bearing froze. It was pricey. I had 92,000 at the time of the repair, but someone here noticed it and mentioned the power train warranty. I contacted the dealer and Jeep and, long story short, they honored the warrant and reimbursed me for the repair.

^^^Welcome to the Forum! Your power train warranty should cover it. If you are over on mileage, and don't have the extended warranty, then you pay..$$$$$$ The only extended warranty on the cylinder head issue was 2012 built applicable.

Hey all. New to the forum but not new to Jeep Wranglers. Owned a couple of Wranglers back in 2002-2003. A lot of fun to drive and own. Recently purchased a 2012 Wrangler and after putting 4K miles on with a trip to the midwest from Western Idaho, the dreaded engine light came on and was diagnosed as the P0302. I received a 30 day warranty with the purchase so contacted the dealer. They swapped the plug/coil pack from cylinder 2 to 6, reset the engine light, and everything seemed good. Drove a couple hundred miles and the P0302 returned. I stopped for fuel (gauge was showing under 1/4) and after filling up, miraculously...no engine light. It was on before I filled up and went off as I drove away from the gas station. Fast forward to today...Same exact thing happened a second time. Gas gauge showing under 1/4 so I stop for a fill up. Engine light has been on the last 50-60 miles (didn't check the code but was assuming the P0302). After filling up and driving away, the engine light went off....Engine is running fine...no misfires, lack of power, or rotten egg smell. Does this sound familiar to anyone that's experienced the P0302 code?

Hey All,
I have a ‘15 JKU with 87K. I have been seeing this code for about two months now. After having the spark plugs and coils changed, my Check Engine light fires intermittently. Until recently the light would turn off after maybe 3 restarts. Recently, the light is remaining on and there is a oil leak (per oil spout where i park and wet undercarriage). I took it to my local dealership. The verbal report is a misfire in cylinder #2. I am awaiting the final word.

I have a 2018 Sahara with just over 46K miles. Has the P0302 code that cleared but comes back. Noticeable fluctuation in idle on odometer. Did the injector cleaner route nothing. A mechanic friend took a look and saw no issues with obvious things. He recommends going to dealer for compression check. I have extended warranty but not sure on coverage. Hope Jeep does something because this is a long-known problem and will force me away from Jeep if I have to pay major $$$ at 46K miles.
