So my passenger floor kept getting wet during rain storms, and searching across the internet led me almost nowhere for a concrete solution. So I said screw it, I'll figure it out. First I took the cowl off, which has screws along the windshield, two between the cowl and the hood behind the seal and one on the cowl grille. Once removed I saw the slot leading into the drain funnel, I tested its draining capabilities by running water into it and wouldn't you know, it was clogged.
Don't mind the rust, it's an official colour in Canada.
Next I had the stupid idea to try and remove a little nut beside the funnel behind the valve cover. Now for the 2005 era jeeps you absolutely do NOT need to remove that nut. It took me over half an hour and led me nowhere. The solution was to simply reach under the funnel as shown below, and pull off the rubber drain tube by hand. Be warned though, it's pretty awkward to reach if you have a lifted jeep.
As soon as I pulled it out I knew that it was the problem, it was completely filled with gunk. I washed off the drain and then also washed the funnel as there was residue. I never knew what the little drain looked like till I pulled it off. Next I gave a good wash to the funnel while the drain was still off because it too was filled with gunk.
All I had to do after that was replace the drain and cowl and I was done with the wet carpet! What some people do that also works is reseal the AC/Heater intake with silicone (the black box on the left side of the first picture) as it's easier, but I was too concerned about blowing the wiper motor. Hope this helps!
