Half doors vs. Full doors

I Recently bought my 2000 wrangler with full doors and am considering buying half doors with either soft or hard uppers. Anyone's thoughts on the idea?

I recently went through the same thing with my new (to me) 04 Rubicon. What I learned was that the OEM half doors for the TJs are in crazy high demand and cost an arm and a leg. Mopar doesn't make them anymore and the aftermarket options are mostly just aluminum shells. So, if you're not willing to spend at least $800 and put some elbow grease into this project then just stop right now.

Assuming that you are... junkyards sell them on E-Bay constantly, but you will likely have to do what I did which was buy two different color doors, from two different older jeeps of different years from two different sellers. I plan on doing a little bondo and rust proofing work on them before I take them over to Maaco for a cheap color match spray.

Where things REALLY get tricky is when you try to get interior trim on those half doors that are in good shape and match your interior. I got the interiors on both, but they are badly beat up and don't match my black interior. I'm planning to try the Dupli Color Vinyl and Fabric spray paint out on them to see if I can bring them back to life. If not, its back to junkyard shopping for interiors I go.

I really like half doors, I've never had full doors. I would probably avoid buying a jeep with full doors, because I like half doors that much. They have a great feel with no top.
They are a pain in the ass when trying to zip up windows while you drive though.

I had half doors on my first Wrangler, '91 bought new. They were nice when the top was down, but a real PITA when the top was up and I went to mail something or go through a drive in window. They also had a tendency to whistle when on the highway with the air vent open.

If you are going to be driving topless or top down in good weather, rather than trying to find decent half doors (you then have to get the uppers as well, and the window covering) think about tube doors. They would be lighter than the half doors and Quadratec has a deal of offering free mirrors with the Rugged Ridge tube doors. If I can get the full doors off my TJ (they haven't been off in 15 years) that's the route I'm going to take.

My Jeep came with full doors. I wanted a set of half doors for summer/top down weather.
I got lucky and found a set of half doors for $500. They were red, my Jeep is white, but the price was right. It was another $450 to get them painted. I tore the doors down so they wouldn't have to, which saved me some money. The interior door panels were grey and my interior is tan, so I painted those. I forgot, it was another $50 to get the locks cored to my key.

I love my half doors. They are great for summers and make for a much better armrest. I scored mine when I bought a car and soft top. $250 for top and doors plus surrounds and soft uppers. When picking it up the lady said she had half doors she could throw in if I was interested for nothing. She no longer had a Jeep. I think they are factory steel doors. Only one sue is I need to use 1/2” spacers on the puns or they sit too low and don’t close. Small price to pay in my books. I only use em in the summer. The zippered half windows are a pain but they come off easily. With rear seat removed I can store my doors and uppers in back and have them on in 2 minutes. And they look much better when going topless.

My Jeep was delivered with 1/2 doors originally. They keep my granddaughter safe and I think give it a nice sharp look. If you have never tried half doors, you are missing out in a big way. I have since acquired Bull Dawg fiberglass uppers (from CL) in the matching spice color. I've never had full doors on this Jeep, nor do I think I want them anymore. I run the soft uppers in the summer months (mid-April) and the hard uppers in the winter (starting in mid-November). The hard ones definitely cut down the noise level. This morning (and many mornings) I just popped the half door uppers out, leaned them against the garage door, and went to work. Takes all of 30 seconds. I put them back most evenings to avoid getting dew on everything.

I have them both full and half on the JKU and love them, but they each have their place in snowy Michigan.
The TJ has full doors for now and would love to score a set of half doors :D

Half doors are great for off highway summer driving. Cruising around with your arm resting on the door is the best.

For highway speeds though, they'll never be as quiet as full doors. And they'll leak more.

I have 1/2 Doors and would like to swap to full (Daily Driver). If you are anywhere close to Denver maybe we could work something out?

Full Doors, Half Doors, No Doors, I love them all and use them all. It depends on the weather and mood. But then again I have a Hard Top, Soft Top, and Bikini Top for the same reasons

I bought my TJ a few months ago with full doors. Living at the beach, I liked the idea of half doors when the top was off, so the search began. Wasn't willing to pay $600+ for them, but that's the only prices I was seeing...until last week - a pair popped up on my local FB Market Place for $100 for the pair!...and the paint matched mine (white). I PM'd the guy that I would take them sight unseen and we worked out a time to pick them up. Then his FB post started to blow up with people inquiring about them. Was sure I was gonna lose them, but luckily he replied on his post that a guy was supposed to be by that afternoon and he would update if he didn't show... I showed :)
Interior panels need painting, but I feel very lucky to have them at anywhere near that price.

Just be patient - deals are out there or Just Empty Every Pocket on eBay or such

I have had full doors on both of my Jeeps. I had one in Phoenix and always took them off. Not a big deal. I live in the Dominican Republic now and I’m glad I have full doors. You never know when it’s going to rain and I love to be able to crank those windows up and down quickly instead of unzipping them.

I like half doors for trail riding. They give a nice arm rest and give the legs something to press against to hold yourself in.

I keep hard doors for the daily driving aspect, but since I no longer DD it, I picked up some ugly factory half doors, sanded and painted them myself to "match". They turned out decently, but I ended up selling them when I lived at an apartment because I didn't have room.

I recently picked up some white half doors, and if I can't trade for black, I will sand and paint to "match" again.
