45 degree cant on right hip works fine for me! All kidding aside, my brother mounted a 50 cal ammo can where the console normally sits, slightly modified to hold a holster or two inside, which can then be locked. I don't have pics, but you can picture the idea pretty easily.

Search for a thread on idiont teenagers jumping into jeeps at stoplights as a game. I saw a guy post one on there that mounted directly to the bottom of the steering column. Looked slick and easily accessible.

 

 

I was going to find WesterM3's pic that is the one I've seen here I like a lot. There is another with a plastic holster mounted to the inside of the arm rest compartment.

 

As with all holsters, make sure you install a lockbox at the same time. The last thing you want is to park the jeep and have the gun stolen and have it end up being a murder weapon later on.

For this reason, since I don't have a lockbox and don't carry a gun on my body, I only carry a gun in my jeep when i go off road, fishing, etc.

The one under the steering wheel isn't too visible. But still its like what I said above, the vehicle needs a bolted-in lockbox for any guns left in the vehicle.

 

Yeah, agreed. Thing is- many people know that Jeepers carry. Be wary.

 

This is the set up by buddy has on his Jeep for rifles when we go out. I know you were wondering about pistols but we usually have them on us.

 

Glock of your choice, 17,26,27,19,23,22 w/ spare mag holder.
Glove compartment, easy access from the drivers seat, out of site from Rangers ect.

I was thinking of using one of those myself but I want to find a more hidden location.

The .45 will either be on my person or in the lock box when that's not possible if I am not in the jeep. But i just don't like the idea of the holster being visible to entice a would be theif to break in and try to find the gun.

alternately, I have a shoulder holster I was thinking of draping over the passenger seat. Then I can just reach behind the seat and draw the gun if needed. And just tuck the holster under the seat out of sight when I'm not in the jeep.

I may try it out this weekend and post a pic if it works out.

 

On top of the sun visor. Works great for me. No one ever even notices it when they get in. Super easy to reach up and grab .

I agree completely, except my holster of choice is a drop leg holster. Its hard to draw from a seated position. So I want something to securely mount the gun in the jeep. Then I can transfer it to my holster when I get out.

 

This works best for me. Passengers or anyone else can't get to it. I'm 5'11 and I don't have seat all the way back and it's still not in my way. Nice tight fit and no rattles.

 

I know that jeepers like jeeps cuz they fill the inner-boy scout in all of us that needs to feel "prepared" for anything life throws at us.

And that philosophy naturally winds its way into gun ownership...the need to feel prepared for whatever life throws at you.

And the next step on that path of reasoning is carrying...concealed or otherwise...after all if it aint with you...its kinda useless and thus defeats the whole "be prepared" mind-set.

However.... Being prepared is more involved than simply having everything with you. It requires a realistic evaluation of need....utility....burden....safety...you know, basic cost/benefit analysis.

I've taught guns and shoot'n for the better part of 25 years to all sectors ranging from feds to toothless rednecks and everywhere in-between.

Ive posted countless "pontifications" on the topic of weapons in vehicles.

Ive cited research studies, statistics, fire-fight analysis, all sorts of empirical data.....but ulitimately the discussion always winds-down to "cuz I wanna". In which case all other considerations are usually pretty pointless.

To answer the OP...think about the leading edge if the drivers seat...slightly above the lever used to moved the seat back and forth but below the seating surface. Depending on the size of the hog-leg your planning to take for a drive...between your knees might be an option.

But now that I've addressed the question...I will repeat my personal and professional opinion and advice: There are three places for a firearm - in your hand, on your side, or secured at home.

The primary source for stolen firearms...people leaving them unsecured in places where (ironically) they think they need to have one right-handy just in case the boogy man comes to get em. But the boogy man VERY VERY rarely waits for you to be around so he can chat whilest he is boogying. He's bashful. He likes to visit when you're away...kinda like an anti-santa.

Where the heck is everyone from mounting guns in there jeep ?? I'm a law enforcement officer in New Jersey an I can't even do that has to be concealed under my shirt ?

I don't think anyone is planning on leaving their gun in the vehicle mounted holster when they are not in the Jeep. The purpose of these is for having your gun quickly accessible when you are in it. You get in, you put your gun in the vehicle holster. When you get out you put it back on your body or in a lock box in the vehicle if you can't carry where ever you are going. I think everyone here knows that if you left your gun in a vehicle holster then it wouldn't be there when you got back. Many forms of carry are very difficult to draw from in a seated position and it's nice to have your gun handy for emergencies while driving. If I were stopped at a light, for instance, and someone tried to carjack/rob/whatever me then I would have a very hard time getting my gun from inside waistband in the 4 o'clock position. However, reaching next to the console or under the steering wheel is quick and easy.

 

yup. mine is only there on big wheeling trips or long roadtrips. 99% of the time I am driving to a military base so I cant have it with me anyways.

Ohio land of the free. We can have as many guns in the vehicle and anywhere we want now with CCW.

I keep my M&P FS 40 in my IWB leather/kydex and I can draw it while seat belted in but its not quick or smooth. I need a good mount to put it in while driving.

 

Any good ideas on how to have it within easy reach but hidden when your doorless with the too down?

 

When I'm doorless, I have my left leg partially out the door and it makes it more comfortable to had it on me(right side). I work on a base and a few years ago, one of the Federal LEOs asked if I had my CCW yet. I said "Not yet!". He said "Man, you're driving this jeep around doorless LOOKING like you carry?! You better get something before this young kids catch you slipping!" I got my CCW within 3 months of that conversation. Of course, I don't carry it on the base...
