Is it worth it to get 33/12.5R15 tires?

I have been toying around with the idea of moving from the stock 255/75R17 tires on my jeep to a set of new 15" wheels with 33/12.5R15 tires on them. I like the looks of the larger tire sidewall and smaller simpler wheel but does that justify spending $1300-$1500? Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't I only gain about and inch in tire height and just over 2 inches in tire width? I just upgraded to flat fenders and will admit that with the stock wheels my wheel wells look a little exposed but I don't have the funds to make all necessary modifications to bump up to 35's. Any advice is appreciated.

I run 34X11.5 (285/75R17). I wanted to get the BFG 34X10.50 tire but it ran too small.

Ideally I am going for the same look that you have there and I like the BFG All terrain T/A KO2's, but don't know if I would be sacrificing any capability because mine has the BFG M/T KM's right now and they have handled everything. I do mostly street driving because mine is my DD right now but want something to handle everything from sand to mud to trails as I plan to make a trip to Colorado next summer.

IMO...the BFG's are great on sand and dry snow and do well in rain but I've had issues with them packing in mud...they almost become like drag slicks and will not clear themselves. The mud here is gummy red clay which is slick as snot on a doorknob. They did run very smooth with even wear across the tread. I ran 325-60-20's on my 2500HD. Have Toyos now and love them! A bit noisy but they will pull the fire out of hell.

My main thought though is, will I really notice that much of a difference before I go through with all of the work involved and cost. The new tires would have more sidewall and be 1" tall and a half inch wider if I go with 33x10.5 tires. I still would have to deal with the TPMS and getting a recalibrating tool for the tire size change so those added expenses get included as well. I will add some pictures of what my current set up looks like.

Im really happy with my setup, Ill have to get new pics up later.

Mine came with P225/75R16 about 29"X9" so my 33x12.5 measure about 32 so 3" taller then stock. I had been running the same tires for years on my last Jeep so swapping them over to the 14 JK was a no brainers to me and worth the cost. That and the stock rims and rubber just looked silly to me.

It's well worth it f you are not in a hurry to replace the current set.

I picked up five Kuhmo MT51 tires on sale for $125 ea and the rims on closeout from Discount Tire Direct for $60 ea. DTD even gave me free lifetime rotation and balance ( I love DTD!)

Total out of pocket , including mount and balance was about $1000 IIRC

It's Black Friday and Christmas is right around the corner. Just shop around and take your time.

Bassett makes a variety of wheels that should fit and can be ordered with different offsets.

There are beadlock and have optional mud covers: Bassett 15" Diameter D-Hole Lightweight Racing Wheels Asphalt or Dirt

They are avaiable in 15x8, 15x10, an wider

In 15x8 there are these conventional DOT-approved wheels, again in a choice of offsets:

These are from Diamond Racing Wheels, again different offsets and widths:
