Ok. I have this strange issue. I have a 2015 Jeep JKU Rubicon. It started a few months ago. When you turn the key, the JK won't start. No click, no dings, no codes. Nothing. After a few months, it has gotten worse. At first, I thought it might have been my key fob, but it happens with both fobs. If you watch the video I uploaded to youtube, you can see what is going on. I am leaning towards it might be an ignition switch issue. If you turn it off and take the key out a few times, it will start and act normal. I am going to take to the dealership on Friday and show them the video. Let me know what you think. I hope I am not having electrical gremlins.

your key fob is not being recognized. Happenned to my 2013 rubi. Had to pull a fuse for 30 seconds. After that it works normal.

Heres a vid of same thing.

That is what I thought at first. I got a brand new key fob from the dealership. That was on Monday Jan 7th. Then today it acted up again. Like I said before, If I turn it on and of and remove the key a few times, it will eventually work. And it will work fine for a while. If it acts up before I make it to the dealership on Friday, I will pull the fuse and try that.

And if you look at my video, the red light on the RH side goes out, on your video the light stays on. This is a major head scratcher for sure.

Ok.. Took it to the dealership yesterday and they said it would take them a few hours to look at it. Since I have the Mopar Max Protection Lifetime warranty, I am supposed to get a loaner. Well, the dealership didn't have a loaner to give me. So, I told them I would bring it back on Thursday. I would drive my 95 YJ, but it's kind of a part in the garage at the moment. :rofl2: So, I am going to take it back on Thursday and demand a loaner, I don't care if they have to get me a rental from Enterprise or Hertz or from whoever.

I did show the video to the service person and he never saw anything like it. He asked me if I was pushing in the clutch all the way. I told him yes. I have driven this thing for 3+ years and never had this kind of problem before. *sigh* I hope they figure it out on Thursday.

So what is the fix? I have a 2018 JKU Sahara. It is doing the same thing.

I know this post is about a year old, but as our 08 JK does this randomly, I was wondering what the outcome was? BTW, when that was happening, did you try starting your Jeep in 4Low? The clutch safety switch does not engage when starting in 4Low for some reason. When our Jeep won't start with the clutch depressed, it will start in 4L....

Neither video indicates a faulty key chip or a Sentry Key issue. The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) is designed to allow the Jeep to start and run for 2-3 seconds and then die. You can have an all metal key cut to fit the ignition (standard old Chrysler blanks) and it will act in that way. The system will check the lights and when you turn the key, the Jeep will start, run for 2-3 seconds and then die (since there is no chip).

When I had a spare key cut and programmed for my TJ (same SKIM system) by a local locksmith, his first pass with the key reacted just that way on the first pass. On the second pass he got it programmed correctly an that key still works just fine several years later.

The fact that the red light above the temp gauge goes out indicates the the chip is working and recognized. The no start could be the ignition switch (behind the lock cylinder or other cause.

I've posted this on similar threads, so I'm sorry for the repetition...

I have had similar issues with random fail-to-starts. In my case, it was an open circuit, but I'm sure a short would do the same. The ECM cant resolve open/shorted circuits and doesn't let the jeep start. In my case, it was a e-disconnect that I failed to pull the fuse for after removal. I've also seen the same behavior on loose ground, corroded terminals and stripped wire. Anyone aware of a chart for a JK that shows ground points?

Back in the spring I had a strange no-start sequence. Instead on starting normally where the engine started and the RPMs kicked up to about 2000-2500 and then dropped back to an idle, I had what I called a half-start. The engine would sort of start, chugging at about 400 RPM and no response to the accelerator. Then it started just fine on the second try and didn't do it again for a few days. Then it started doing it more often. Then on night about 30 miles from home it did it 3 straight times. I thought it was going to strand me.

Now the Chief is basically a re-trimmed Sahara so it has the auto headlights which means as soon as the ignition is turned on, the headlights come on. Even though the headlights are LEDs and don't take much current, I turned them completely off and it started. First thing Monday morning I went for a new battery. The factory battery was over 3 1/2 years old and I know the battery when it gets weak throws strange symptoms.

After replacing the battery it started normally each time for about a month, then did it again. This time I looked on the forum and found that it could be the accelerator pedal which is actually a lever connected to a rheostat and is connected to the electrical harness. I talked to a trusted mechanic what was involved and he told me to just buy a new one and they bolt on with two screws. I ordered it and since it has arrived the Jeep has never failed to start properly since. I am still looking at the new part in the parts box.

I am not saying either items, battery or accelerator is the cause of the issue, but our new vehicles are complicated electronics and it could be. If your dash lights come on when you first turn the key on, it's not likely to be the ignition switch. If the security light goes out after 3 seconds, it's not the key fob. It just could be the battery, and it just could be the accelerator.
