JKU Golden Eagle

Hey guys I've found a 2018 JKU Golden Eagle, brand new on a dealers lot, for $33K. MSRP was $40K.

The golden eagle comes with dual top (with premium soft top), Alpine speakers, power windows, 17" bronze aluminium wheels, rock sliders, U-connect, TPMS and tow hitch (but not the 3.45 gears, only 3.21).

But the bad - the hard top and fender flares are body color (white in this case, but they also have a black one available). The soft top is tan. There is a hood decal, giant eagle of some description.

I have no idea what the inspiration is for this golden eagle edition, not that it really matters since it's still a Jeep.

Any thoughts on this model and it's options?
Thanks, Mike

I agree, but for a new, comparable build I'm looking to spend $40K and ouch that's getting up there.

This golden eagle is brand new. And the decals are removable I'm hearing.

It's different, that's for sure. Not that I want to be like the rest of the pack. And it's not ugly like angry bird eyes ugly.

The stickers can be removed.
The tan top is a nice top.
Fender flares can always be changed.
Are you sure about 3:21 with a factory hitch?
$33K sounds a little high.
I would think 29 to 30 more be more reasonable to offer.

That last pic says it all.. Golden eagle in the CJ was awesome.. The new ones are cool, just don't add it to a Jeep that's not a golden eagle.

33 is too high IMO. Offer them 33.5k out the door (and you'll pay for the plate) and tell them before you make the offer, your making your best offer and walking for a dollar more.. when they start build value in the package and it being new.. tel them, "It's only going to be new until I drive it and with those gears I'm going to have to do work on it right away.. not to mention that hideous white top."(not really, but *$*^ a dealership). If they hesitate walk out. They will call you within 48 hours and say okay if no one forks over the money.

Say it like you got a pair, and they will believe you.

White hard tops are 15F cooler inside than black hard tops in the summer. Way better than that silly padding people pay $500 for. I live in Texas and paid extra for the white body colored hard top. Its an asset down here IMHO. I think the summers are pretty bad in St. Louis too.

That's not a bad idea. The more I think about it, the more I like it. But then the more I drive this rental JLU, the more I like that too. Confound the thing!

I really dug taking the freedom panels off today, but putting them into that bag designed by Rubik himself...did not like that part. So easy to take off and put back on!

@ChuffHugginLoognat

Your love of the angry bird grille is well-documented here on WF. So when reading this thread, I was inspired...

1. Purchase that 2018 Special Edition Golden Eagle.
2. Purchase the Fab Fours Grumper Grille.
3. Purchase the Fab Fours ViCowl.
4. Paint the Grumper and ViCowl metallic freaking gold.
5. Leave the Golden Eagle decal on the hood.

Grumper and ViCowl combo example below (I was unable to find metallic gold ones, but use the images below to meld them together using your imagination).

I know! Are you kidding me.... f***ing brilliant, right? Behold The Golden GrumpEagle.

Now that folks, would be one hellofa tribute to the old bird!

How are body colored hardtop and fenders a bad thing?
-A now self-conscious white JKU owner with body colored hardtop and fenders ;)

I'll keep my triple granite grey, but thank you...

I'll keep my triple color, but thank you... Whiteout looks good too.. Like I said, throw some bronze wheels on that and it will pop with the best of them.

I say go for it. White hardtop and fenders ain't bad (But I do wish mine was the new JL Ocean Blue)

We looked at the golden eagle editions around our area last year when we were shopping for a new jeep. The wife insisted on power windows and we only found one out of approximately 15 golden eagles within a 100 mile radius...I think the power window option is fairly rare on Golden eagles. The 3.73 gears can be found on golden eagles as well...we never found one within reasonable driving distance that had both power windows and 3.73's.

We opted for the Willys edition. (had the options she wanted and I wanted).

I think that is a fair price considering it comes with both tops, alpine speakers and power windows.

I was in pretty much the same situation around a month ago. My one year old 2018 jk was totaled and I wanted another new 2018 jk. After searching the entire tri-state area I found a couple golden eagles and a couple rubicons. The golden eagles were definitely cheaper and I thought about it for awhile but in the end I couldn’t pull the trigger on one as I just couldn’t wrap my head around the seemingly random aesthetics that try as I might, didn’t appeal to me.
Bottom line though is that if the rubicons weren’t available I definitely would have gotten the golden eagle if nothing else was available.

I'm starting to convince myself the hood decal is actually an interesting detail. Same with the tri colors and tan soft top. I see where this is heading...
