Looking for a 2" receiver front bumper

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site but been 4 wheeling most of my life, just never owned a Jeep until now. What I'm trying to find for it is a front bumper or push guard that has a 2" receiver on the front for a winch mount that can easily be moved to the back 2" receiver. Preferably something recessed enough so if I hit a tree I don't smash my winch while it's on the front.
Anybody ever see anything like that or should I start modifying a push guard on my own?

etrailer.com has front hitches.

As does Curt:
CURT Manufacturing - CURT Front Mount Hitch #31028

Sorry... your (hitch mounted) winch will always be the first thing that gets hit in an accident. It sticks out there pretty good.... looks a little silly too. Of course you also have to run cables to both the front and back with plugs.

I've been looking at this carefully because there are times where you're going to need winch pull from the back. Still researching but at this point I think the answer (from my pov anyway) is a permanently front mounted winch with an extended roller which fits into your front hitch to redirect the pull under the jeep.

You see them on atv's. Haven't seen anything for a jeep though which means I would have to make one. Someday when I get some extra time....

I thought about these too, but imagine you are in mud, unless you already ran the cable to the rear you would have to dig or scuba underneath to run the cable.

The only thing would be to is run the power and get a cradle and winch for the rear. There are a couple of guys here that do that.

Thanks, You're right it would stick out a lot, I'm thinking of either surrounding it on both sides with a push bar that sticks out a ways

and maybe weld some tubing below ad above,
or I think I've seen bumpers that have the cutout but not the winch mount. I'm not sure really I've looked at so many bumpers my head is spinning. I thought about your idea of running the cable under the jeep but I've been axle deep in mud where I wouldn't be able to get under it to run the cable and fortunately I'm one of those "let's go for it and see what happens" kind of guys. I think I'd rather be able to move the winch rather than run the winch cable under before I dive in head first.

Yeah, I thought of that too and the conclusion I came to was that it wasn't going to be any easier manhandling a 100 pound winch in knee deep mud from the front to the back, lining it up with the receiver and plugging it all in.

Either way, it's going to be a lot of work and you're going to get VERY dirty!

When I 1st got my Jeep, I thought about doing this as well. The more I looked into it, the more I realized it wasn't a very good idea.

Going from memory....problems with this.
- Hitch receiver winches aren't as strong, so you'll have to reduce your winch size below a 9K winch type. I can't remember the exact number.
- Once you're stuck, you never know how you're going to be stuck and pulling a winch off one side and putting it on the other may not be possible. For example, buried in the front, winch is on the front and need to go backwards? How you going to pull that front winch forward through the mud that's directly in front of it that you're stuck in, so you can put it on the back? If you have it currently on the back, are you sure you're going to have enough space to put it on the front receiver?
- Hitch mounted winches decrease your approach and/or departure angles since they stick out further. Thus, the winch can be a contributing factor in causing you to get stuck.
- It's a pain in the behind moving a winch from the front to back.
- The hitch receiver in the front often reduces your front ground clearance and if you get a bumper with a receiver, they're not very strong and can break easily.

What I ended up doing is that I decided to do a front bumper perma mount 12K winch. Then I purchased 3 snatch blocks and tree saver straps so I can do a reverse pull if needed. Go on Youtube, pulling yourself backwards with a front mounted winch is very feasible.

For additional convenience, I'm currently working on installing a small (2.5K) rear hitch mounted winch. My plan is that I will use this for pulling out brush, deer, logs, and cars that often get stuck in ice/snow on my sub division streets before the road crew plows the roads. Using a snatch block, thus doubling its pulling capacity, it should be able to handle smaller pulls. If a smaller rear winch doesn't work for your needs, then there's no reason you can't get a larger winch and hitch receiver winch mount and do the same if you need something bigger for the rear.

I just happen to pick this one up from HF for $35 during one of their sidewalk clearance sales. So I'm going to put it to use by making it portable and be able to throw it on the rear hitch. I also picked up their 3/16th synthetic rope and fairlead for $20 as well, but need to still put the rope on. It came with 3/16th in steel cable and a roller fairlead but I don't like steel cable. If it doesn't work out for me, I'll upgrade to their 3.5K and some 3/8in synth rope but I only spent $60 total on this one, so no biggie.

The HF 12K Badlands winches are good for their price. $279 with their coupon. I would rather perma mount one in the front, and then throw another one on a rear receiver winch mount for the rear if I needed it than try to do a single winch and moving it back and forth.

I think you guys all convinced me to change my thinking. I like your idea of having a small winch on standby for the rear hitch receiver. Maybe something that would fit under the seat until I need it.
Most times all i need is a little tug to get out of a jam if I'm high centered of not in too deep. Plus I was nervous about a heavy duty winch on the front receiver bouncing around because there's no way to really keep it stable.
Guess I'll get a bad ass front winch bumper and mount the permanent one up front.Gotta outdo my brother, he's got an older willys and I've always had Chevy Z71s.

That looks like a pretty cool setup. I'm wondering if you could mount that box on a small trailer hitch winch receiver mount like I did with mine?

I got this one on Amazon.

That was my thought as far as using a smaller winch in the rear to use a double line pull if needed. I figured that would be pretty easy to do on the rear. I would put the winch in the hitch receiver, then use a snatch block hooked to a tree or vehicle I'm pulling and then bring the rope back around and attach the end of the line to one of my rear tow hooks to be able to double the pulling capacity.

My rear winch I pictured above, I can pick up and carry with one hand. I'm going to look for a bag I can put it in, and then just throw it in the rear of my Jeep. I'm currently working on getting the power wires to the rear with a quick connect. It seems pretty convenient for a rear pull and isn't a heavy/bulky boat anchor to be having to deal with. I wouldn't want to be having to deal with additionally carrying around a battery like they are doing in the video but I'm sure that does make it more portable if you're letting someone else use it to get unstuck.

Yup, me too. That little box looks awesome. As far as running the wires, there's really not much to it. I work for a cable company and we use batteries for standby powering with the same connector as the first picture of that hitch mounted winch above. Th rest is just running the wires along the frame to the battery. you could probably ground to the frame if you grind it down to clean metal but I would probably just run 2 right back to the battery.

Today I finished up with my rear winch setup. 2500lb HF Badlands winch with the HF synthetic rope and fairlead. I put the parking brake on and reeled in the rope. It works great and I had no problem pulling my JKU with the parking brake on with it.

Installed and ready for use

Snatch block setup to double the pulling capacity, but I had no problem with a straight line pull as well.

The Tree that I was pulling with it (or I mean snatch block other side) :D

Throw it inside the HF 15in tool bag

Bag zipped up with portable winch inside (it just fit)
