I'm going to be installing an Alpine iLX-W650 sometime next week. Looking around the 4door JK for the best spot for the aftermarket mic. Trying to find a spot that won't get a lot of wind noise. So, I was trying to stay away from using the A pillar.

Didn't realize I couldn't edit the first post. Anyway also open to suggestions on the install materials. I have in my cart right now PAC RP4-CH11, Alpine iLX-W650, Metra 95-6511 Dash Kit, Metra 40-EU10. The Jeep doesn't have Uconnect but has the upgraded alpine subwoofer/sound system. There's also no USB ports anywhere in the jeep so I'll be adding one somewhere too. Was thinking about adding that to the inside of the center console. I'll be adding the Crux CCH-01W back up camera as well.

I attached mine right above the rear view mirror.

I put mine on the steering column.

For our Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX, believe it or not, it works fine inside the dash behind the stereo (including top-off use). I suspect your voice is sort of focused there by the windshield. I put it there temporarily, figuring I'd run it overhead by the driver later, but it works so well, there isn't any point in moving it.

There's a vent hole under the key that might work if you don't have the sensor behind it for auto temp control.

Personally, running it to the A-pillar and back to the stock location where the vent is will probably be pretty good. I would just use electrical tape and wrap it around the stock mic - you don't want to remove the stock mic, it will send a trouble code that shows up on computer readings, even when using an aftermarket headunit.

I installed a new head unit and the factory mike was removed. No codes have shown up. On my 2016 the mic was completely recessed so there would not be anyway to attach the new aftermarket mic to it. BTW the Kenwood mic is far superior in that it has true noise cancelation and is totally clear when talking on it.
