New stereo head unit help please: A single or double DIN size? Im changing out my 130 head unit in my '14- my current project. I'm not asking for a particular recommendation on the brand, model or whatever. I'm looking for which size to use. Does the single din type look small in the dash? They both will fit in the dash, with the double din requiring some mods as crutchfield says. I posted this a while back and didn't get any useful responses, so I'm hoping to here. I need to narrow the selection to one or the other soon, as that cuts down many of the units. Thanks

I've looked at this recently, and I like the new Pioneer Double DIN Heads that support Android auto and Apple CarPlay. I like the idea of using my phone to have up to date maps and traffic wherever I am, rather than paying for map updates year after year. Granted, if you go for a single DIN, NAV doesn't matter.

*Disclaimer: I work for Google, but not the Android Auto team. I've just really loved using it and I'm still deciding whether to upgrade the stereo in my 2008 JK or just update my JK...

When I first bought my '13, I pulled the entire Alpine system when I got home and replaced with a single DIN stereo. I chose it because it was supposed the be the best SQ stereo available. That lasted about 3 month before I sold it and bought a double DIN. It just looks more finished in the dash.

I never used the little storage bin under the single DIN. The new double DIN can play DVDs which I have never done, it can play video off of an SD card which I've never done. It can pull NAV off of my phone which I rarely do. It has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most importantly, it has a removable face which is great because I never have my top or doors on in the summer.

Mods are minimal and won't prevent you from putting the 130 back in if you have to.

I agree with the "..looks more finished in the dash" but I'm not sure if that's the ONLY factor I should be concerned about. Thanks for the answers. I am leaning double din size.

If you want NAV then get a double din. Some can be difficult to see in the sun especially w/o actual buttons to change channels etc

There are also some descent double din non NAV decks out there

I think double din looks better however going single din you gain a pocket to out stuff or a area to out extra gauges.ll,
